H Hargrove Paintings and Serigraphs

I was introduced to H. Hargrove paintings in the early to mid nineties through picture and paintings shows that were occurring at the time. Hargrove is a wonderful artist who is capturing the essence of american life. His paintings remind me of Normal Rockwell style paintings. Both Hargrove and Rockwell depict American life with great bold expressions and colors.

H Hargrove art was reproduced by using a serigraph process. Serigraph is the process of creating a color print by the silk screen process. It is difficult to find information about H. Hargrove as he is from Italy and doesn't provide a lot of information about his artwork.

Pictured in the photo on the left is H. Hargrove's "The Senior Prom" from 1992.

H. Hargrove's real name is Nicolo Sturiano

Nicolo's pen name is H. Hargrove

Nicolo Sturiano paints under the name H Hargrove. Nicolo was born in Italy in 1947 and came to the United States in 1964 as a winemaker. Nicolo Sturiano fell in love with the American Landscape and was soon painting for the wine gallery's tasting room. From the tasting room to a studio in Greenwich Village to great American art.

Appraising an H Hargrove painting

Getting an accurate worth from an H Hargrove painting is difficult, it will depend on a lot of factors. Is the painting signed, is it an original oil, is it a serigraph, is it a numbered serigraph. Not knowing what type of canvas you have makes it very difficult to determine the price without putting it on Ebay or some similar site.

The best guess out there right now is a list that hasn't been updated since 2004 at Hargrove Paintings appraisal list. There's also a place to see what is currently being sold on the site to determine current asking prices of Hargrove art.
