How would you like to have some relaxed plans for art and music appreciation this summer? I have pulled together six weeks' worth of ideas for you to use with your family. I have chosen an artist and a composer for you and put down some specific plans for listening, viewing, and follow-up for each. Claude Monet and Felix Mendelssohn are wonderful choices for art and music appreciation for all ages of children.I have packaged them all up into a neat little PDF for you to download for free.
The plans introduce the music of Felix Mendelssohn and the paintings of Claude Monet in this mini-unit. The plans also include every print I suggest and you can view them in the PDF, online, or you can print them out if you wish. I have created simple artist biography and composer biography notebook pages for you to print out as well.

I suggest having one Mendelssohn CD on hand to listen to along with these plans. You can honestly use any Mendelssohn CD but I especially like this one for our family. It has a good variety of his music and is pleasant for younger children to listen to.

Degas Oil Pastel Project
One of the suggested activities with the Degas study is to use oil pastels to make your own Degas style picture. Van Gogh Prints and Projects
There are suggested paintings to look at and in our house we make a display with the week's painting so we can view it as we go about your daily activities. There are also suggested art projects to follow up your Van Gog study included in the ebook plans Van Gogh Project with Oil Pastels
Each mini-unit gives suggested art projects to follow up your artist study. Here is one project my son did with oil pastels. Art copywork is a traditional way to learn more about a certain style or art time period.

- Hi there! Any suggestions for Asian music or Asian art? We are going to be embarking on the Eastern Hemisphere curriculum (Sonlight) and there will likely be art projects but I'd like to study artists from Russia, Asia, Australia and Africa, ditto on music.

- I love this idea! It is a great way to connect with art! I have had the privilege of being able to visit Arles where Vincent van Gogh worked on his room, and starry night. It is a roman city, in the south of France. Very nice work!
