Harmony Art Mom

I thought it might be helpful to make a lens sharing all the things I do all over the internet.

I am a homeschooling mom of four children. Two of those children have graduated from high school and just about finished college. My two youngest boys are in high school and we are taking the challenge of homeschooling for the complete four years. I write a lot about homeschooling on my my Harmony Art Mom blog and I keep up a nature blog called Handbook of Nature Study, based on the book by the same title.

We live in Northern California in the Sierra Nevada foothills. We spend lots of time outdoors whether it is in our own yard or within an hour or so of our house. We can ski, snowboard, snowshoe, hike, canoe, kayak, river raft, and swim all within a few miles of our house in an area that most people consider vacation land.

My husband is a wildland firefighter and inventor in his spare time. We have been married 26 years and enjoy drinking coffee, planning and taking trips, and spending time with our children.

My passions have turned into a work-from-home adventure with Harmony Fine Arts and the Outdoor Hour Challenge ebooks. You never know where your interests will lead and mine have taken me farther than I imagined. My involvement in nature study drew the attention of Cornell University and they featured my work on their Celebrate Urban Birds website.

My Homeschooling Business

Harmony Fine Arts

Harmony Fine Arts ButtonThe idea behind this program came from my own home schooling experience. I was always searching for a plan for picture study and composer study. It seemed simple enough to do myself but I just never did it. I also wanted to use the classical style and Charlotte Mason's ideas for our art and music. I wanted all the great resources organized in the four-year cycle of history. I wanted it to be flexible and easy to use. I never found what I was searching for so I decided to do it myself!

This is the art and music appreciation program for busy people. We have done all the research and organizing. You are able to open our plan and offer a great program for your children.

My Passion - Nature Study

Outdoor Hour Challenge blog buttonIt started out as a personal adventure to spend more time outdoors with my children and it has grown into a worldwide community of nature lovers. The concept is so simple and easy to get started that I think most families that give it a try realize this is something that is worthwhile and beneficial to their children and family.

I post a short nature study reading and Outdoor Hour Challenge. They usually take 10-15 minutes to complete and afterward there are suggested follow-up activities. The families can post a blog entry sharing their outdoor experience and then link up on my blog so other families can read and be inspired too.

We are finishing our third year of Outdoor Hour Challenges. All the challenges are listed on my Handbook of Nature Study blog and are free for any family to use at any time. I invite you to click over and check them out for your family.
