Sabathil & Son French Double Harpsichord

The Sabathil & Son French Double harpsichord is largely based on the best examples of 18th century French harpsichord making.
While it is not a copy of any particular harpsichord maker's instrument, it incorporates the traditional concept of string scaling, plucking point, and overall design.
In addition to these historical features we have given our French harpsichords the reliability one would expect from a modern instrument: a light, hidden metal frame for tuning stability, delrin jacks and plectra for a light action, and metal jack slides that cannot jam or wear in any climate.
The hand-painted soundboard of specially selected, 300-year-old Canadian Western Red Cedar and the light case produce an outstanding sound quality which surpasses most modern harpsichords and many an old one in consistency.
The bass is sonorous and rich, the tenor full and clear, the treble pure and brilliant to the very last note. The full 63-note keyboard from F to g'" allows the performance of all the old music, without restrictions or exceptions.
This harpsichord is a unique instrument which unites a historical basis with modern reliability and outstanding sound quality.>/p>
63 notes, F to g'", rosewood double keyboard, shifting coupler
Three sets of strings: 8', 8', and 4', 8' and 4' are played on the lower keyboard,
8' nazard on the upper keyboard
Harp stop to both 8' stops
Dimensions: 7'8" long, 3'3" wide, weight 170 lbs net, 300 lbs gross

The Significance of a Metal Frame
Sabathil & Son is the only existing harpsichord maker in the world using a metal frame in the design of our instruments.
Why might this be important to you when purchasing a harpsichord or clavichord?
Two reasons: sound and stability.
The reality is that wood-framed instruments are not able to adequately hold the tension produced by the strings. Frequent tuning is required, and warping is common over time, compromising the instrument's sound and performance.
Our aluminum frame, however, absorbs and contains the string tension, enriching the sound of the instrument and keeping it stable so that in most cases, only occasional tuning is required.
In fact, the special aluminum we use for our frames is so resonant that it is also used for hand bells, tone bars and tuning forks.
The result?
Exceptional resonance and minimal maintenance, the hallmarks of Sabathil harpsichords and clavichords the world over.

Praise For The Sabathil & Son French Double Harpsichord
"We got the Harpsichord on 6-6-07...it took four of us to carry it into the house.
Mary-Jo was so emotional that she couldn't even talk.
It is just beautiful!!! Is the wood walnut?
And the sound is something out of this world.
Mahalo!!!"

From Mr. Drew G., Brea, California, USA:
"After six days of anxious waiting after speaking with you, the harpsichord finally arrived in perfect condition yesterday.
It is without a doubt the most gorgeous harpsichord I have ever seen or heard, bar none.
I would have called to thank you personally, but I have a tendency to talk a little too long for my budget.
It was so kind of you to put the gold banding on it for me - as well as my name on that gorgeous soundboard. That meant a lot to me."

- Barb, the French double has such a masculine sound to it. I love the timbre of the insutrument. I suppose this harpsichord is way up there in price. It is my love to music and being a trained musician in classical music and piano being my primary instrument, I have alway been longing for a harpsichord.

- Thank you for your kind compliment! The first piece my father is playing is part of a Suite by Matthias Weckmann (1619-1674). There is a recording available on the Wildboar label called, "Seventeenth Century German Harpsichord Music: The Stylus Phantasticus", performed by Edward Parmentier. You can purchase it online here: http://www.musicaloffering.com/wildboar/german_harpsicord.html. Enjoy!

- Hi, I love your harpsichord! I'm writing to inquire about the first piece your father is playing. I read all the comments, so I learned it's a suite by Weckmann; unfortunately, I can find no web supplier that sells the Wildboar CD. In any case, I'm a pianist and would like to learn the piece, so can you tell me which Suite it's from? Or an opus number? Thanks for your help.
