Harry Potter Collectible Books, Variations and Special Editions

Harry Potter has been printed in countless different languages, but there is an array of variations in print for just the English language alone. The original Harry Potter books were published in the UK, beginning with the UK version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. When the books came to the United States, the title was changed to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, which is the most widely recognized version today.

Apart from the title change, the US version of books were Americanized and include subtle language variations from the UK editions. In addition to these subtle differences in language, there are several variations in cover illustrations. In the UK, an adult version of the books with adult cover art were printed as a means of offering a wider audience appeal.

Book collectors and general Harry Potter collectors may be interested in learning more about these differences in printings when determining which editions to collect.

Please Note: All UK Editions are available from the UK Amazon store which ships worldwide, while all American Editions are available from the main Amazon store in the US. In addition, some of the UK titles can also be found at the main Amazon store. New in November 2010: Harry Potter Signature Edition Books Available

I would love to read the British versions, to see how Jo intended the story to be (I have the US versions).
  • Edutopia Jan 30, 2012 @ 11:55 pm | delete
Great lens, I never knew there was so many cover art options for the series. Would love to get a complete set besides the US first run hardbacks.

I have about half UK and half US versions. I prefer the UK editions because the spelling differences make me hear them speak in the British accent ;)

I also have the first two in Spanish. Each time I try reading them, suddenly a ton of old vocab words flow into my head.
