My curiosity for this debate was inspired by a family gathering where there was a lot of discussion about sparkling vampires among the obsessed fans of the Twilight Saga. Soon a debate was sparked between the Harry Potter fans in the group and the Twilighters. Everyone had an opinion, even those who had not read either of the book series.
J.K. Rowling has become one of the richest women in Britian, a multi-millionaire in just five years. Will Stephenie Meyer have equal success with her writing? I do know that every teenage girl I know is obsessed with the Twilight books. Some have even lost interest in human boys completely, hoping they'll meet a nice, handsome, and slightly dangerous vampire in Biology class and be dazzled by his charming crooked smile and golden eyes.

The Twilight Saga
Twilight is a series of four vampire-based fantasy romance novels by American author Stephenie Meyer. It charts a period in the life of Isabella "Bella" Swan, a teenage girl who moves to Forks, Washington and falls in love with a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullen. The series is told primarily from Bella's point of view, with the epilogue of Eclipse and Part II of Breaking Dawn being told from the viewpoint of character Jacob Black, a werewolf. The unpublished Midnight Sun is a retelling of the first book, Twilight, from Edward Cullen's point of view.
Ever since the release of the first novel, Twilight, in 2005, the books have gained immense popularity and commercial success around the world. The series is most popular among young adults; the four books have won multiple awards, most notably the 2008 British Book Award for "Children's Book of the Year" for Breaking Dawn, while the series as a whole won the 2009 Kids' Choice Award for Favorite Book.
As of November 2009, the series has sold over 85 million copies worldwide with translations into at least 38 different languages around the globe. The four Twilight books have consecutively set records as the biggest selling novels of 2008 on the USA Today Best-Selling Books list and have spent over 235 weeks on the New York Times Best Seller list for Children's Series Books.
Thus far, the first three books are being made into a series of motion pictures by Summit Entertainment; the film adaptation of Twilight was released in 2008 and the second, New Moon, was released on November 20, 2009. The third film, Eclipse, is set to be released June 30, 2010.

Okay, what's the question? Let's break this down:
Characters: Harry Poter
There's always someone you can relate to. Hermione for me (I have the highest grades), but Luna's close! Bella is just pathetic, whiny, weak, and LACKS any independance! I liked Alice, but she's not a big character like Hermione =) Also, the fans of Twilight are having an identity crisis. Robert whatever-his-name-is is NOT Edward. Judge characters on PERSONALITY, not how they look in the movie.
Plot: Harry Potter:
Not only do they surprise you at the end, but it's so much more DEEPER! Despite the length, Twilight had a very simple, easy-to-follow plot. You really have to read all 7 HP books at least once again to notcie how they're planned out!! Twilight is so predictable: she stands there, someone saves her. Same in all 4 books! And the climaxes are just a conversation. Harry Potter is all surprise endings. And still enjoyable, reading them again.
Mystery: Harry Potter
Hmmm...is Edward a vampire? Bella spent over 100 pages wondering this when all you had to do was look on the back of the book. SImilar with "Is Jacob a werewolf?." And Eclipse was VERY insulting. I figured out the the two things were connected by th 4th chapter...and it took them about 450 more pages to figure this out. In HP, you don't know who's after the Stone, where the Chamber of Secrets is, how Hermione's getting to all her classes, how his name got into the Goblet of Fire, what's going on in the Department of Mysteries, who the Half-Blood Prince is, and how Voldemort and Harry are connected. And that's only ONE of the multiple mysteries in each book.

If You ask me, I prefer Harry Potter over Twilight. I've read both books and what they could offer and truthfully both are best at their respective genres however Harry Potter has a more engaging and better plot, well developed characters, more twists and turns that shocks, captures more of my imagination, and is an original fantasy world out from nowhere that caught my interests and lots of moral lessons. Twilight is stonger in expressing the feelings because of a viewpoint perspective and makes a very good lovestory and also grounded in reality except the vampire-werewolf part of course.

Twilight has a bunch of shallow characters who are all incredibly annoying, sentimental, and stupid (the reason Edward can't read Bella's mind is that it does not exist. You can't read a book with blank pages, after all). And the whole plot line (if there actually was one; I couldn't tell) was a collection of cliched gag-inducing mush. It's insulting that Harry Potter is even compared to that garbage: Harry Potter is a work of literature that showcases the author's extreme intelligence and imagination. Twilight is Stephenie Meyer's pathetic fantasy is prose-- probably the result of a mid-life crisis.

Well, i love them both. But if I were to choose only one, I'd probably go to Twilight. I love vampires. I used to be afraid on vampires when I was a kid. But now, I want Edward to bite me. Hahaha. And harry potter is more on magic which I'm not into it. Sorry HP fans, but TWILIGHT is MUCH BETTER that NO ONE can BEAT it! Do you agree? :D
