The Harry Belafonte Concert

Harry Belafonte: Performer and Social Activist.

Oh, yes, I had the requisite Fabian and Frankie Avalon albums. I swooned when Tommy Sands was on American Bandstand. Oh, yes, I was a typical tweener of the 50's.

However, at night, the red and gray portable hifi beside my bed played Harry Belafonte albums and if my feet had been held to the fire I would have had to admit that it was the 'elderly' Harry who had my heart!

I played the fun songs, the ballads, the sad, "Delia's Gone" over and over and over again.

So, when I discovered the fun of making our own concerts for charity, well I dropped everything and here I am fulfilling a life time dream.

Harry Belafonte: The King of Calypso...

born March 1, 1927 is a singer, actor and American activist.

He has been involved with causes for human justice around the world.

Heifer is a fitting cause to donate the proceeds from this concert.

Jamica Farewell

Down the way where the nights are gay and the sun shines daily on the mountain top, I took a trip on a sailing ship and when I reached Jamica I made a stop.....

Who can turn a ballad like Harry Belafonte? No one I know of.

Banana Boat Song

This is probably Belafonte's most famous song. I saw him in an outdoor concert when he was in his 60's. His first song was belting out Day--O! and it was felt in the bones!

You are treated to three versions here. The first the traditional., the second with the muppets and the third the clip from the movie Beetlejuice.

This last clip introduced new generations to Harry's wonderful music.
