Room to Read Fundraiser

World change starts with educated children

This lens is a proud member of the Room to Read - Harry Potter fundraising group. A purchase made from any of the participating lenses helps raise money to build schools and libraries in developing countries.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for Room to Read.

Fiction

Children's books and more...

The Thief Lord

I highly recommend the Thief Lord. It is the story of two orphans (Why are they always orphans?) who run away to Venice, where they encounter the mysterious Thief Lord. Although he helps them, he also drags them into increasingly dangerous heists.

The story involves mystery, magic and the bonds of family.

The Thief Lord

The best thing is it is a stand alone novel. You won't have to wait for sequels. . .

The Thief Lord

Book lovers will be pleased to know that the movie version is very true to the book.

His Dark Materials

Philip Pullman has written the epic tale of Lyra Belacqua, her daemon, and Will Parry as they travel through different worlds, find God, and save the universe! It is an enchanting trilogy that takes you places you never expected to go. (Why are they always trilogies?) It even has a hint of modern physics...

If You Liked the Movie...

Here is a list of books that were made into movies. If you liked the movie, you should check out the books.

I've included upcoming movies. If I've missed any, let me know.

Harry Potter Schoolbooks

Part of the proceeds from the sale of these books are donated to the British charity, Comic Relief. So far 15.7 million British pounds have been raised. Additional information can be found at Comic Relief, including how the funds have been allocated.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

One of Harry's "textbooks" made available to the general Muggle community. It describes the origins and importance of Magiczoology. The second part describes everything from Acromantulas to Yeti.

The funniest feature of the book is the "margin notes" added by Harry, Ron and Hermione. (Yes its true! Hermione wrote in a textbook!) Check it out to find out what she wrote.

Quidditch Through the Ages

This is straight from the Hogwarts School Library. It is a very informative history of the development and rise in popularity of Quidditch in the wizarding community. Learn about the Golden Snitch, fouls and Ron's favorite team.

Unfortunately, Irma Pince's stern warning in the front must have kept Hermione, and the others, from making funny comments in the margins...

I'd also recommend Cornelia Funke's Inkheart trilogy (again with the trilogy!) - Inkheart, Inkspell and Inkdeath. Last one comes out in Oct 2008. Also the Edge Chronicles - awesome fantasy, if a little gory at times.
