Plant and Harvest Time Board Game
Ranked #7,068 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #89,884 overall
It's time to Plant and Harvest the Crops!
In the first round, each of the players tries to plant their gardens before autumn comes. In the second round, players try to harvest the crops before winter comes.
The Harvest Time game is played against the weather and the seasons rather than against each other which promotes cooperation and conversations to determine the best strategies.
Roll the dice to see whether you will be able to harvest all the vegetable in time for winter.

Today we began gathering materials for our summer unit study. Some unit studies take just a day, others a week but a unit study on growing crops for the harvest actually takes an entire year. We begin by brainstorming and gathering materials.
I was rummaging around in our closet of teaching materials looking for ideas when I ran across Harvest Time
As we began to plant the peas, corn, tomatoes and carrots we discussed which ones we will actually plant this summer and how we will turn these vegetables into delicious dishes when it's time to harvest them in the fall.
Which crops will you plant?
Which crops will you harvest?
These are the four vegetables that are planted and harvested in the Harvest Time Board Game. Which ones are your favorites? Which ones will you plant this year?
After voting you can click on each of these links to buy your seeds in time to plant this spring and summer.
Organic Sweet Corn Seeds Spring Treat 35 Seeds
This corn matures about 2 weeks earlier than its counterparts. Also it is a bit easier to manage as it grows only 5 feet tall. The packet contains enough seeds for 2 six feet rows.1 point
Carrot Baby Little Fingers Heirloom Seeds 400 Seeds
Reaching only three inches long this carrot will get your children eating their vegetables. Enough seeds for one fifteen foot row. But if you plant every other week you will have a long season of fresh carrots.1 point
Beefsteak Tomato Heirloom Certified Organic Seeds
The sandwich tomato. When transplanting tomatoes, bury half of the stem after you have taken the leaves off. You will be rewarded with a sturdier, more productive plant. Indeterminate; requires support for best results. Packet contains enough seeds for 20 plants after thinning..1 point
Peas Sugar Snap Certified Organic Seeds 85 Seeds
A vegetable to grow especially if you have children about your garden. Plant the seed directly in the soil and provide support and watch the tendrils grap the trellis.1 point

Roll the dice to see which crops can be harvested. If you harvest all the corn in your garden you can help your neighbor to harvest his. See if together you can harvest all the crops before winter comes...

Harvest Time Unit Study Journal
Brainstorming for the Harvest Time Unit Study
Photo Credit: Harvest Time Brainstorming Journal, by Evelyn Saenz
As I sat down to write this unit study I used a journal to graph out ideas for activities, games and lessons. Across the top I wrote the names of each of the subjects I wanted to address and then down the side I wrote the names of the four seasons with their accompanying planting and harvesting activities.
A graph like this quickly shows me where I might be missing a subject area. By writing just a few words, I are able to jot down my ideas which in turn spark other ideas.
The more ideas I fell into my Harvest Time Unit Study Graph the more I can see that many of these ideas would be best expanded into more lenses rather than making this lens so long that it is difficult to load.

This journal is also a wonderful place to keep track of alternative rules or variations that we invent when playing the Harvest Time

- Thank you for this lens - I was not aware of this game until now! We have a square foot garden, and my son has a couple of squares. This game would be a great way to get him excited for the upcoming planting season :)

- my youngest is 13, but I would still love to have the board game! She can play it with my grandkids too.
Gardening started to be a unit study for us as we planted the garden, then I didn't keep it up. If I actually would have made lesson plans as you demonstrate it would have worked. I will try it again this school year...and we can start learning way before planting time, and hopefully plant some of these seeds we are saving this year early in the house.
