HashTags are a common misunderstood feature of Twitter. They provide an easy method of capturing time-sensitive and important information that can be distributed quickly amongst a group of Twitterers or news feeds. They were made popular during the 2007 San Diego forest fires when the hashtag "#sandiegofire" was used to identify news updates on Twitter.
Proper Use of HashTags
HashTags for TwttrStrm
The # sign is commonly referred to as a "hash mark". By placing the # in front of a keyword on Twitter, conversations can be tracked to provide relevant tweets on the subject. A popular hashtag is #followfriday, where Twitterers will recommend someone to follow on Fridays.
TwttrStrm pulls HashTags into your lens based on the tag you provide when creating your new lens. You want to be careful when choosing a HashTag because you cannot change it later! You may end up choosing a tag that is used by another person or website for a different subject and end up displaying non-relevant or inappropriate content on your lens.
HashTags are not case-sensitive. It doesn't matter whether you use #news or #News. The same results will be displayed.

Misuse of HashTags...
I #ordered a #medium #coffee #today....annoying and who cares? LOL
The misuse and overuse of HashTags is an easy way to lose followers on Twitter. Using too many or irrelevent HashTags can confuse and frustrate Twitterers.
TwttrStrm already uses a HashTag in the proper format - at the end of your tweet. TwttrStrm provides your lens with ONE HashTag (10 characters or less) , so choose it wisely...and make it count! :-)
