Geeks you love to hate

Here are a few people who really get under my skin

A quick overview of a few geeks (every field has there share of geeks in my opinion) that people love to hate. For our purposes we will work with the following definition of geek:

A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest. This definition is very broad but because many of these interests have mainstream endorsement and acceptance, the inclusion of some genres as "geeky" is heavily debated. Persons have been labeled as or chosen to identify as physics geeks, mathematics geeks, engineering geeks, sci-fi geeks, computer geeks, various science geeks, movie and film geeks (cinephile), comic book geeks, theatre geeks, history geeks, music geeks, art geeks, philosophy geeks, literature geeks, historical reenactment geeks and roleplay geeks.

A few geeks we hate

Hate is a strong word so maybe I should say dislike:)

Before I begin, I must say that I know none of these people personally and I am sure they are fine people and there mothers love them. There is something about them that rub me the wrong way.

Geek #1
Mark Cuban
Dot.com billionaire and owner of the Dallas Mavericks seems to always have something to say. I hate how he gets more airtime on ESPN than some of his players. He also was once a Disco Dance instructor (according to Wikipedia anyhow) so what else do I need to say.

Geek #2

Gary Bettman

Lawyer and longterm commisioner of the NHL, Bettman has been at the helm of several initiatives that have eroded the quality of my favorte sport. Thanks to him,
The NHL expanded into non hockey markets that have not been successful, diluted the talent by creating more teams which lead to borderlline players making the pros and a score of other annoying things. On top of all that he looks like he is a cross between PeeWee Herman and the Count off Sesame Street.

Geek #3

Bill Nye

I give Mr Nye kudos for promoting science and education and I have seen some great interviews with him on Larry King...its just the lab coat and theme song drive me nuts

Geek #4

Weird Al Jankovic

Gaining fame and fortune off the creative efforts of others would be considered admirable by some, but not me. Currently there is a group of fans who are currently trying to get him a Star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood.; Ugh.

Geek #5

Steve Urkel

I know he is only a tv character but boy do I find this guy annoying. Definately gives geeks a bad name.

Steve Jobs drives me crazy. He's not that brilliant but he gets a lot of attention. He's great at taking a new idea and pushing it to the max, but not necessarily the bright bulb idea man.

I would have to have some time to think hard about that question, to cut it down to a manageable number of people. But what a corker of an idea. Great fun for all, except perhaps the nominees.
