Haunted Colorado Springs, Colorado

When it comes to haunted Colorado; one of the first things that usually comes to mind is the movie- The Shining. The story takes place in a The Stanley Hotel nestled in the Rocky Mountains in a village of Estes Park, Colorado.

Another popular place is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado called The Broadmoor Hotel. It is a huge beautiful Hotel that is considered a five star, five diamond luxury hotel/resort. It was built in the early 20th century as the Grand Dame of the Rockies. But behind all of this beauty there are numerous reports of hauntings. My experience is among them.

There are many haunted areas in Colorado, many urban legends and many stories yet to be told. I have personally lived in several areas there and it seems no matter where I lived I always had somekind of experience. Let's take a haunted tour through Colorado, shall we?

Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is less an adaptation of Stephen King's bestselling horror novel than a complete reimagining of it from the inside out. In King's book, the Overlook Hotel is a haunted place that takes possession of its off-season caretaker and provokes him to murderous rage against his wife and young son. Kubrick's movie is an existential Road Runner cartoon (his steadicam scurrying through the hotel's labyrinthine hallways), in which the cavernously empty spaces inside the Overlook mirror the emptiness in the soul of the blocked writer, who's settled in for a long winter's hibernation. As many have pointed out, King's protagonist goes mad, but Kubrick's Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is Looney Tunes from the moment we meet him--all arching eyebrows and mischievous grin. (Both Nicholson and Shelley Duvall reach new levels of hysteria in their performances, driven to extremes by the director's fanatical demands for take after take after take.) The Shining is terrifying--but not in the way fans of the novel might expect. When it was redone as a TV miniseries (reportedly because of King's dissatisfaction with the Kubrick film), the famous topiary-animal attack (which was deemed impossible to film in 1980) was there--but the deeper horror was lost. Kubrick's The Shining gets under your skin and chills your bones; it stays with you, inhabits you, haunts you. And there's no place to hide... --Jim Emerson

The Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel Pictures, Images and Photos

The hotel's founder was F.O. Stanley who was diagnosed with a fatal case of tuberculosis. His doctor suggested that he moved to Colorado because of the mountain air being drier and pollution free. By doing this Mr. Stanley's condition would either improve or make his passing easier.

There are haunted tales today that suggest that Mr. Stanley wanders the lobby and billiard room and that Mrs. Stanley plays the piano in the music room. In Room 217 there is a story that speaks of a housekeeper Miss Wilson who survived an explosion in Room 217 40 years prior to her death. Mr. Stanley offered her a lifetime job at the hotel and that is where she ended up dying was in Room 217 from an aneurysm.
Some of the hauntings that have been reported is:

-In Room 217, guest have reported their suitcases neatly unpacked and stacked in the closet

-Beds have been reported as being turned down

-Some guest has demanded another room because bed covers were thrown off of the bed, and loud unexplained noises were reported.

-On different floors of the Hotel, you could hear children's voices and sounds that reminded the guest of children playing. These commotions have caused some guest to leave the hotel in fright.

Product Description

They are the backbone of a continent, towering granite peaks that have lured adventurers to the American West for centuries. For some, this rugged landscape yielded incredible wealth. For others, its only offerings were tragic death. In a tour of Colorado's spookiest places, we visit Cripple Creek Hotel, Manitou Springs, the frontier town of Buckskin Joe, Molly Brown's Denver mansion, and Estes Park--where phantoms still cling to a life long past in the Haunted Rockies.

The Broadmoor Hotel

Colorado Springs, Colorado

Broadmore Hotel Pictures, Images and Photos

When I did a research on YouTube I could not find any haunted videos from the Broadmoor Hotel. There have been numerous reports that the Broadmoor is not haunted and other rumors that claim the stories are inconclusive. But as with all haunted stories there are those who have reported experiencing paranormal activities. With that being said, the only thing I can do is share some of the stories which I do not know is true or not except for my own experiences which without a doubt I know are true.

Some of the stories I have read speak of a fire at the Broadmoor Hotel and supposedly the ghost from the fire haunts the hotel. When I tried to search for some information on the fire I could not find it?

An electrician claimed to see a woman passing by him in a reflection of the window. When he turned around, the figure had disappeared. Rumors say this ghost is that of Julie Penrose who supposedly haunts the Broadmoor.

Other stories shared also mentions Julie Penrose's ghost but ghost of others too. While renovations were being done to each wing, it closed so no guest was allowed in those areas. A Security Guards claims that he heard the elevator running although there were no guest on the floor and as he was investigating it, small metal objects were being thrown at him but he claims there still was no one around.

Sometimes when we are younger, we do the oddest things. One night a friend talked me and another person into going to work with him at the Broadmoor Hotel; he worked in the kitchen. When we got there, the other person with us had failed to mention to me that they would be working that night. After about an hour or so, the "Friend" said I could not be in the kitchen. It was about 1:00 AM and I did not have a driver's license and I was not going to sit in the car until they off from work. So the "Friend" suggested that they knew of a place I could hide for the night and it was in the basement. Very long story short, I had the choice of either going outside to the car by myself, or staying down in the basement in this little closet area.

Needless to say, I opted for the closet area; I thought it would be better than freezing in a cold car in the middle of night. The Broadmoor is HUGE so you imagine how big the parking lot was. That night in the basement was unreal. I smelled these strong floral scents; I kept hearing footsteps walking closer to the door. I kept hearing these sounds like moans or low whispers. I was fit to be tied! I was so mad I made the other person take me home. I had all I was going to take from that closet area and from those jerks. Of course they both claimed I was a scared little child and it was all my imagination. And frankly I did not care what they thought. I also never went back to the Broadmoor Hotel. True story-This was back in the early seventies!
