Is Gettysburg Really Haunted?
If you remember anything about American history, you know that Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is well-known for the Battle of Gettysburg that took place from July 1 - July 3, 1863. Aside from it's rich Civil War history, Gettysburg is on several lists of the 10 Most Haunted Places in America. Haunted hotels, haunted tours, haunted battlefield, you name it - if it's haunted, Gettysburg is said to have it.
Ghost World Conference
Ghost Conference you say?
More than 300 people from around the US and Canada attended the three-day conference. They had several guest speakers and an incredible number of vendors selling books, videos, and all kinds of ghost-busting gadgets. People in the field take paranormal research very serious and the lectures provided some interesting information about why people believe ghosts exist and how they go about exploring areas that are said to be haunted.
The conference was interesting, to say the least, and we had a good time. And we had even more fun exploring Gettysburg on our own.

Paranormal Investigation

While attending the Ghost World Conference, my mother, sister, and I opted to participate in a paranormal investigation. For those of you who don't know, a paranormal investigation is when you visit a haunted site, after dark - spooky! - and use various types of equipment to find evidence of paranormal activity. I went armed with my camera and took the photo above. I couldn't see what I had on the viewfinder of my camera at the time I snapped the shot, so I was rather surprised to see this picture when I downloaded the photos from my camera to my computer.

The Battle of Gettysburg
How It All Started
Why do so many people believe that Gettysburg is haunted. Perhaps it has to do with the number of tragic deaths due to the battle that took place between July 1 - July 3, 1863.The Battle of Gettysburg, the most famous and most important battle of the American Civil War, resulted in 51,000 casualties in what originally began as a skirmish. Said to be the turning point of the war, by the time the three-day battle was over, it had involved 160,000 people.
The battle transformed a small American town into one of the most well known places in American History and prompted President Abraham Lincoln to deliver his most famous speech,The Gettysburg Address.

Haunted Picture?
How eerie is that?

I took this photo on the main battlefield at dusk. The subject of my photo is a little blurred, but if you look closely at bottom on the left side you can see the word "yes." How strange is that?
Another strange thing happened while I was taking pictures on the battlefield - the batteries in my camera went completely dead. After spending some time taking some pictures, I reached one particular area and all of a sudden my camera batteries were drained. According to paranormal researchers, this is fairly common. I had fresh backup batteries in my camera bag so I popped them in and within seconds they went from full charge to dead. When it comes to my camera I always use good batteries specifically designed for cameras so it was a bit disconcerting to have two sets of fresh batteries loose their charge so quickly.

- Great lens! My son would love this - he's a bit of a paranormal fan. He's done a lens (under my name) on a haunted hotel he visited (The Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA). You can check out his work at http://www.squidoo.com/queenmaryghosts .
