Haunted New York

New York Hauntings

After watching Celebrity Ghost Stories and hearing about all of the haunted places in New York, I decided to add it to my collection of Scary Pages. I did a Google Search on Hauntings in New York and it came up with over million and a half links! That is a lot of haunted stories!!

Now according to Windygig The Van Horn Mansion is haunted, so I took a look at it and YEP she is 100% right! That is one place I will be writing about. She also told me a couple of others I will share in a bit.

Remember the Amityville Horror-it took place in Long Island, New York. So needless to say there is a lot of stuff to cover on the hauntings in New York, so let's get started.

The Van Horn Mansion

Information gathered from Wiki

A little history of Van Horn Mansion: Built in 1823 by Judge James Van Horn. This Georgian-style home known as the Van Horn Mansion was the first brick home built Newfane.

In 1996 a student of the Niagara County Community College created a haunted house in the mansion. Psychics have long called the building haunted. During renovations roofers witnessed seeing faces in the windows of the vacant mansion and saw lights flicker for no reason.

The grave of Malinda wife of James Van Horn, Jr. is located in the rose garden on the north side of the grounds. It is said that cars have skidded to avoid hitting a girl who was seen running from the mansion and later vanishes. There have also been séances and other paranormal occurrences in the mansion.

As I was writing this last paragraph my computer flickered, that is NO LIE!

King%u2019s Park Psychiatric Center

This psychiatric center was established in 1885. It was opened until 1996 when the New York State closed it down and released its few remaining patients or transferred them to Pilgrim Psychiatric Center.

KPPC use to be a Farm Colony which was a form of therapy for the mental illness at the time. The patients would work in a variety of farm related activities. It is said that there are claims of abuse and even today within the walls of the center you can hear the screams of the patients.
A paranormal group who investigated KPPC claimed that doors would open and strange knocking sounds could be heard. There were also many different orbs captured on film and one of the members seen a face in the window who was thought to believe was a former patient.

According to Wiki:

KPPC closed its door in 1996 and enthusiasts of the paranormal, amateur writes and photographers visit the grounds. It has gained a reputation on Long Island as a haunted location, which draws curious individuals from across the area.

The focus for heavy vandalism has seemed to have increased mainly focusing around Building 93. Since entering the abandoned buildings is illegal, private security vehicles do patrol the area and trespassers will be prosecuted. So explore at your own risk.

I have been studying paranormal for years and been investigating for a few months.
I have not had any experiences yet, but I know there is something more than what we think we know, but I have no answers yet.
If you hear of anything else in New York State, I'd love to hear about it.

I am now living in upstate New York, close to Albany. If you do a lens on that area or around the Adirondacks, I would greatly appreciate an email letting me know! New York has so much history it is no wonder there is so much haunted history attached to it. I have heard many stories myself from the Columbia county and Hudson areas too. It will take me a while to get through your many incredible lens, LOL! Good job!

Amazing how these old psychiatric hospitals literally give you the creeps. There are a couple in my area that have the same reputation that I steer well clear of!
