My Favorite 50...(to be added to regularly)
My top 50 Ways to "Go Green!"
- Let your dishes air dry rather than using the heat dry function on your dishwasher.
- Donate old cell phones you no longer use. Some other great sites for donating cell phones are:
WADT
Shelter Alliance
Cell Phones for Soldiers - Water your flowers and lawn either before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. Watering them in the middle of the day can waste up to 30% of the water you use due to evaporation.
- Wash your car yourself rather than going through a commercial car wash. Commercial car washes can use up to 55 gallons of water per wash!
Bonus: If you can, wash your car on or near your lawn to save even more water costs.
Bonus #2: You're getting a great workout at the same time! - Use the economy switch on your refrigerator to save energy. This maximizes the efficiency and automatically sets the correct temperatures needed for both the refrigerator and the freezer.
- Fill your home and office with indoor plants. Doing so can reduce the number of harmful gases in your building.
- Got extra wire hangers that you don't use? Donate them to a local dry cleaner rather than disposing of them.
- Invest in an electric razor. Doing so eliminates a lot of waste from disposable razors as well as razor blades.
- In the summertime, brew iced tea outside. The tea tastes the same and saves on energy costs in your home.
- Choose an inkjet rather than a laser printer. Doing so can save up to 90% on energy costs!
- Got extra vases from those special flowers you received? Make some calls to local florists to see if they would accept the vase donation rather than throwing it out.
- Think about bamboo next time you are trying to decide on hardwood flooring. Bamboo comes in a variety of colors, is widely available, and is fast-growing so it will reproduce faster.
- Need a new look to your home? Rather than disposing of your sofas, chairs and other upholstered furniture, think about reupholstering it for a fresh look.
- Share magazine subscriptions with a friend, family member, or coworker. If you both enjoy the same magazines, you subscribe to one and they can subscribe to one and you can do a trade-off.
- Use old dish rags rather than paper towels for cleaning. Doing so will not only produce less waste, but also saves on the energy it takes to produce the paper towels.
- Insulate your attic. This can save on your home energy costs significantly.
- Make sure your tires are properly inflated to get the proper gas mileage out of them.
- Purchase an eco-friendly reusable bag to use at grocery stores, shopping malls, or any daily activities!

- My favorite green strategy is to use cans, bottles, jars, and boxes to create many of my crafty projects.
I do a lot of crafting, so I'm a lean; mean, green machine! Great resources you have here,
Connie
