4. Pearl Harbor
December 7, 1941 "a date which will live in infamy". When I visited Oahu, I asked the cab driver what is the best place he recommended tourists to visit. The first place he mentioned was Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor is a must to experience United States history and be reminded of World War II. Pearl Harbor is a naval base that was invaded by the Japanese leading to the United States becoming involved in the World War. This invasion led to 2,402 casualties and 1,282 wounded in the United States. You can see the USS Arizona Memorial, Battleship Missouri Memorial, USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, USS Oklahoma Memorial, Pacific Aviation MuseumIf you do visit Pearl Harbor, a visit to the USS Arizona is a definite must. Tours are run nearly every day and it is often one of the most thought provoking experiences of those visiting the area. The tour starts with a short documentary film that includes actual footage of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor at the start of World War II. Tourists are then taken by boat out to the center of Pearl Harbor to the memorial site which floats directly overhead of the USS Arizona, a ship where 1,200 United States servicemen perished. Most people learn about the attack on Pearl Harbor in grade school, but seeing the site first hand lets them understand it on a completely different level.

6. Hawaii Tropical Farms
Sells a variety of different macadamia nut flavors from onion to garlic to honey roasted. YOu can have some free samples. They also sell different sauces. The bus tour costs $15, and it lasts about 1 hour. You will have a very knowledegeable tour guide along the way. It goes over different fruit groves such as pineapple, guavas and macademias. You then go to an amphitheater to see the different ways coconut is used for food, and a little demonstration on how fire is made from sticks. After this amphitheater demo, you go on a little boat ride and listen to some history of the area. Some movies and TV showshave been filmed here including "Giligan's Island", "Tears of the Sun", and some episodes of "Lost". Many have described this as a wonderful experience and one of the less known but popular attractions to try.49-227A Kamehameha Hwy

7. Diamond Head
Located right near Honolulu, Diamond Head is the dominant physical feature on the island of Oahu. This is one of the more popular attractions for people visiting Honolulu, and with good reason too. Though the hike to the top can be daunting to some people, the views offered by Diamond Head are absolutely incredible. The trails are well kept and marked in a way that makes them easy to follow. No vacationer going to Honolulu should head home without more than a few pictures taken of this wonderful natural landmark, and photos taken from the mountain are even better.
A note of warning: it gets very hot so make sure you go early, put on some super-sunscreen and take lots and lots of water. It will take you about 45 minutes to go to the top, but you will be well rewarded with amazing views.
Fee $1 per person, $5 per car

8. Hanauma Bay
This is a common attraction for many visitors to Hawaii. It is a marvelous place for first time snorklers to try to swim with the fishes. You can see beautiful tropical fish and sea turtles as well. Make sure you go there very early or very late so it will not only be less crowded but you won't burn under the searing heat of the sun. Remember to put on a thick layer of sunscreen. You will have to watch a 15 minute video presentation prior to entering Hanauma Bay. It is basically a video that tells you not to step on to corals or feed the fish. Personally having gone to this attraction, I did not like it that the water was a bit cloudy and not as clear as I imagined. For a better experience I suggest you go snorkeling at the more smaller places, such as Kuilima Cove or Kahe Point Beach Park.

You can take the Pineapple Express tour, a 20 minute informational narration into what else..pineapples! You can alos take a walking tour to see different tropical plants. There is a Garden Maze comprised of different plant species, which is called the largest maze by Guiness Book of World Records. 12. Ala Moana Beach Park

While nearby Waikiki Beach is the most famous and popular beach in all of Hawaii, Ala Moana Beach Park may be the nicest beach in the Honolulu area. The beach at Ala Moana Beach Park is perfect for both serious swimmers and those that are uncomfortable in the water. This is the perfect beach for families with small children. One of the nicest things about this beach is the fact that it is often overlooked by travelers who flock to the more widely known beaches, leaving those that venture here to be able to enjoy their time a little bit more. The park has a jogging trail, showers and changing rooms, and is conveniently located very near to a popular food court.

Haggle!
If you are in the market place areas, don't be afraid to haggle! Make sure you have cash and make a good offer and you may get what you want. The more you buy, the better your bargaining power. If you plan to buy several items, first haggle on the first item, when you get the best price, you may be able to lower it by adding other items.
Go to a farm
If you are driving along the North Shore, stop by some farms on the way. You may be able to get a pineapple, coconut, guavas, or macadamia nuts along the way. This is a great experience for toddlers. Looking back into my childhood, I can clearly recall, the man who climbed a coconut tree, opened it with his machete and offered it to my family to drink. It's one of the most vivid memories I had. Let your kids experience the same.

Please comment on anything Oahu
A trip to Honolulu is a great way to spend a vacation. Whether experiencing all of the islands, or confining your trip just to the Honolulu area, few people are disappointed by visiting this little section of paradise that is perfectly able to cater to a variety of travelers regardless of their background or interests. Honolulu has for decades been both the main arrival and departure point for travelers coming to Hawaii. Over those years the area has developed new attractions, as well as reemphasized natural attractions, in a way that is meant to both please and attract visitors coming to or through the area. A visit to Honolulu is often one of the highlights of any vacation to Hawaii, in fact it is often a vacation highlight of a lifetime for many people. Experiencing Honolulu is something everyone should do at some point in their lives.
If you visited, tell me additional tips, places you visited or any advice! It will help others. If you are a first time visitor to Oahu let me know if this has been helpful.
