Female American Kestrel
The American Kestrel, is the smallest Falcon in North America. It is only about 8 inches long. Their diet consists of rodents, some insects, and even small birds. I have observed them many times using a hovering technique (by rapidly flapping their wings), to remain over a certain area, when they are trying to zero in on prey.

Leucistic Red-tailed Hawk
I was able to capture this short video of a White Red-tailed Hawk, beside a highway, before I lost it from my viewfinder, and was unable to get more video.
Photo of White Hawk
This photo (terrible I know), is the same white hawk in the video. I took the photo from a very long distance and cropped it. The hawk was used to people trying to photograph it, and would fly if you stopped a car within 300 yards of it.
Have You Ever Seen a White Red-tailed Hawk?
Although they are still fairly rare, there are a growing number of these White Red-tailed Hawks. Some people call them partial albinos, because they are white, with black eyes. Others call them Leucistic. I would love to hear from anyone who has seen one. The one that I captured on video, was in Kansas.
It is my guess that this genetic mutation is a dominant trait, because usually recessive traits get lost in the gene pool very quickly.
