I can relate. I was about your age when I was diagnosed with HBP. Now I have a-fib - no fun - I have created a necklace and a keychain for medical information. Best wishes with your life style changes. Are you walking daily?

So great to see how you're helping and nurturing yourself. Best wishes to you. I'm going to link to this on my "Live to Be 100" lens.

I really appreciate your sharing of this lens. I have so-called heredity hypertension and I have taken meds since I was in my twenties. (I'm in my fifties now) I like you am thankful for the meds, and like you I try to keep my diet healthy with regard to hypertension, low sodium or no sodium, no processed foods, (they are high in sodium usually) no fast food and low fat. I have managed to stay mostly ahead of my condition. This is not a death sentence, it simply is a fact of some people's lives, especially here in America. I hope you are well, and continue to remain that way. See you around the galaxy...

As an older person who is taking meds for HBP; I so appreciated your lens. More people need to see this and pay attention for their own health. I have lensrolled this to my Live Longer, Live Better lens. Thank you again for a very valuable message lens.

Pretty scary. I am glad to know this is doing better. I used to eat cheese with potato chips. Had to be cheddar. I have not done that in a long time. My diet is boring now, but was more of an intestinal spasm/stress problem 3 years ago. I stopped smoking after 20 years about 5 years ago. I still drink caffeine sodas, I stopped drinking coffee and I eat grains with milk on it (cooked grains) for breakfast every day, split pea soup and chicken and rice as my faves. I recently started eating tacos and burritos and red meat again. I have to stay away from greasy foods as it actually seemed to aggravate my blood sugar which is hypoglycemic if I don't eat a certain way. Stay healthy!

I also have HBP but no cholesterol issues or blockages. I'll have to try some of these recipes. Thanks I do use COQ10 and hawthornberry.

I am blessed with low normal blood pressure but a couple of people I love have high blood pressure. One of them controls it carefully with diet, exercise, and medication and the other is slapdash about it, taking his medication only when he remembers to. I'm sending this page to both of them.

It happened to me too...and I felt so angry to keep hearing the words 'silent killer'...frightening people witless is not helpful..healing comes from order and calm. Do you ever hear about 'cancer: the painful killer'? Why is it o.k. to treat one disease so differently to all the others! I have a lens where I vented my spleen about this, and explained how I have learnt to manage my high blood pressure You might find it interesting. Health and happiness to you, Poppy

Excellent lens and a very important subject. It is so important to get your blood pressure (and Cholesterol etc.) checked even when you are in your 30s or 40s it can be a symptom of some other problem or a lifestyle issue, but whatever the cause it's good to catch it early.

You know this is quite an informational lens! Nicely presented. One thing I've been fortunate to have is great blood pressure. Now if I could only get my cholesterol in check. ;)

Funny how "The Silent Killer" has been said about more than HBP. They (Doctors) also claim Type 2 Diabetes is a "silent killer" because there are millions who die from diabetic related disease who don't even know they have Diabetes.
Thanks for the info. HBP is also one of the things Type 2 diabetics suffer from.
So we have to watch our BP as well as eat to control our blood sugar. Knowing more about HBP is the first step to correcting it. Just like diabetics we all need to stick to a healthier diet. Best of luck in controlling your HBP.

High blood pressure is one of my main health problems. I've been using meds for ten years... but now that my children are gone I'm working on myself and am determined to work my way off the meds.

Thanks for sharing your experience with HBP and reminding us all of the importance of taking care of our heart. HBP runs in my family, too, and I don't take care of my health the way that I should. I hope you do well with making those difficult lifestyle changes.
