Love is in the Air
Valentine's Day is just around the corner and now is the time to start making those special valentines and presents for the ones you love.
This lens has lots of fun and easy crafts for kids to do that are easy on the pocketbook and require little to no supervision. These projects are great to do in the classroom too!
Decoupage Vase
Decoupage glue
Glass or plastic vase or other container
Tissue paper
Brush
Newspaper
Scissors
What to Do:
1. Cover the work surface with newspaper.
2. Cut small squares, about 1"x1", or other shapes from the tissue paper.
3. Cover a small area of the vase with the decoupage glue then place the tissue paper on the glue. Coat with a layer of the decoupage glue. You can put on more than one layer of tissue paper to make it less transparent.
4. Allow to dry overnight. When dry the outer layer should be hard and water resistent.
Luvbugs
Coffee filters
Clothespins
Markers
Tape or glue
Red construction paper
Pipe cleaners
What to Do:
1. Decorate the filter with markers. Using a marker draw a face on the clothespin. If you prefer, with the red construction cut a large heart out to use at the wings.
2. Slide the filter or heart in the opening/slit of the clothespin. The filter or heart will be the butterfly's wings. You may want to attach the "wings" with tape or glue.
3. Add the pipe cleaners for antenna.
Tips:
To simplify the coloring process place washable felt-tip marker dots all over the coffee filter surface, using as many colors as you want. Using the "mist" or "spray" setting on a water spray bottle, wet the filter till the colors start to run together.
The drying process may be accelerated with the aid of a blow dryer.

Small terra cotta flower pot
Acrylic paints
Water-based glaze
Styrofoam
Spanish moss
Lollipops
Fun foam - pink or red and green
What to Do:
1. Paint the flower pot and let dry completely.
2. Apply the water-based glaze following the directions on the jar and let dry completely.
3. Place a small piece of styrofoam at the base of the pot and glue in place.
4. Cut out hearts from the fun foam and glue them to the lollipops. Cut out leaves and glue them onto the stick.
5. Place lollipops into styrofoam and cover generously with the Spanish moss.
Variations
Christmas: Use small candy canes instead of lollipops.
Flowers: Cut out flowers and use the lollipops as the center of the flower. Glue leaves onto the lollipop stick.
Mother's Day: Glue tissue paper on the outside with instant decoupage glue. Then cut out flowers from fun foam and leaves. Have a parent hot glue them to green pipe cleaners. Take pictures of family members and glue them to the center of the flowers, then stick them into the stryofoam.
Easter: Glue decorated egg shapes onto the lollipops.
Shaving Cream Art
Shaving cream
Red food coloring
Paintbrush
White paper
Smock
What to Do:
