Healing Jewellery

Wearing gemstones is actually one of the most effective ways to use them for healing.

I create handcrafted healing jewellery from a large selection of semi precious gemstones, freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystals and sterling silver, 9ct gold or 14ct gold fill metals. Every piece of healing jewellery at Charms Of Light - Healing Gemstone Jewellery is energised with Reiki energy, to further enhance the natural healing properties of the gemstones themselves.

I love creating natural gemstone jewellery. The beauty and energy always shine through!

Agate Jewellery

There are many different types of Agate. More well known Agates are Blue Lace Agate and Moss Agate. Others include Botswana Agate, Dendritic Agate, Bulls Eye Agate and just plain... actually, not so plain... Agate in it's various colour combinations.

Agate Bangle White Agate Bracelet The Agate bangle on the left shows rich browns and caramel swirls. It was handcrafted from one piece of Agate and has no joins.

The White Agate bracelet on the right is stunning in it's purity, with just a dash of sterling silver.

Egyptian Jewellery

Egyptian Bracelet

Sometime ago I received a request to create a replica of a bracelet found in the tomb of King Djer, who was the second Pharoah of Egypt's 1st dynasty. The bracelets found in his tomb were originally created with Turquoise, Amethyst and Lapis Lazuli gemstones, along with pieces of gold. They were beautifully designed, using alternating colours to combine patterns. Take a look at this web page: http://touregypt.net/featurestories/picture05182004.htm.

Although, I do have Turquoise, Amethyst and Lapis Lazuli gemstone pieces, I don't have the same sizes or shapes or even colours, of the gemstones used in these wonderful bracelets. Also, I wasn't yet working with gold but did have some wonderful silver pieces that I thought would work quite well, so I was quite excited about this challenge!

This also got me thinking about other jewellery from Ancient Egypt - what materials were used and why. It turns out that some of the semi-precious gemstones used in jewellery making, were actually chosen for the magical properties of their colouring. The colours generally used were green, red, blue, yellow and white.

Green symbolised new growth and fertility. The most favoured green gemstone was Turquoise, although many Egyptian lapidaries also used Malachite, Green Jasper and Amazonite and, in later periods, Peridot and Beryl. Red symbolised two extremes - life, as well as anger. Favoured red gemstones were Red Jasper and Carnelian, however for some reason, Carnelian was later thought to be an ill-omened stone, meaning sadness. Blue symbolised the heavens and water. Lapis Lazuli, meaning joy or delight, was the favoured gemstone used. Yellow symbolised "the eternal" or "indestructible". The metal used to depict this was gold. White symbolised purity and omnipotence, representing things that were sacred and simple. Silver, known at the time as "White Gold", was used for this meaning.

This is just the beginning of what there is to know about how colours were used in the creation of gemstone jewellery in Ancient Egypt.

In the meantime, here is the result of the bracelet I created. I was extremely pleased with the result. More importantly, so was my customer!

Fluorite Jewellery

Fluorite Necklace & Earrings

I have suddenly found myself attracted to Fluorite gemstones, so when my latest new batch of gemstones arrived from China, I made myself some Fluorite jewellery as a birthday present.

Fluorite Necklace & Earrings This beautiful necklace and earrings are the result. The smooth oval beads in the necklace are called Yellow Fluorite but there are actually some lovely rainbow coloured markings throughout. It feels wonderful to wear - Happy Birthday to me!

Hematite - or Haematite - Jewellery

Sapphire Jewellery

Sapphire Earrings

Sapphire, Crystal & Gold Earrings I have just created these beautiful Sapphire, Crystal & Gold Earrings for a friend for her birthday. She has just turned 50!

I used Gold because it is a 50th Anniversary gemstone. Ok, it is not strictly a gemstone, but gold is definitely what is used to celebrate a 50th Anniversary! Sapphire is the September birthstone.

I do hope my friend doesn't see this picture before I see her on the weekend!!
