It is not only businesses in industries such as manufacturing and or factories that need to conduct a thorough health and safety audit, but also offices. Without a health and safety policy in place, you are leaving yourself open to problems.
You should also make sure you keep up to date with current health and safety laws so that you can update your policy accordingly. In some large organisations, it may we worth employing someone full time in the HR department to function as a health and safety manager.
However, if you have under 5 employees in your business, you do not need to undertake a risk assessment by law - although it might be a good idea to do so anyway.
Training is essential when considering health and safety practice in the workplace. All employees should be made aware of what to do in hazardous situations. Some companies prefer to have a health and safety video made which can make the process of conducting the training much easier.
There are many more specific and niche laws regarding manual handling, health and safety regarding food production and other health and safety situations. Overall the key to avoiding risk and personal injury claims is a bit of common sense and taking the time to really consider all the hazards from all angles. Taking this time for a careful consideration will definitely pay off in the long run.
