About The Benefits Of Tea

Tea is simply packed with goodness. Delicious, can be served hot or cold, sweetened or not, flavored with fruits, or any other way you can imagine!

There have been many studies done proving out many theories on the health benefits of tea, whether it be black, green, white, or oolong.

About Tea

All tea comes from the plant camellia sinensis (if it's not camellia sinensis, you're most likely drinking what's called a tisane). Tea is fermented and oxidized in various stages: White tea has the least amount of processing, thereby retaining most of its natural compounds. Green tea is completely unoxidized, and black tea is fully oxidized. Oolong is somewhere between green and black tea, and is sometimes referred to as blue tea. Red tea is actually a plant called Rooibos (Roy-Boss), and is actually a tisane.

Bad Breath

Bad breath may not seem like a health problem, but it is. Most bad breath is caused by bacteria which give off the foul "morning breath" odor. Those bacteria thrive on plaque, and black tea can help to prevent the formation of plaque.

The Cancer Fighter

Green, black, and oolong teas contain about 10 times the antioxidants that fruits and vegetables contain, but are different from the antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables.

Black tea contains flavanoids that can destroy chemicals that damage cells and encourage cancer. It also helps to protect your body's cells from toxic chemicals that come from tobacco smoke.

Black Tea For Weight Loss

In addition to boosting your energy levels (which encourages exercise), tea has been show to increase your metabolic rate, allowing you to burn calories faster. Some studies have shown that black tea can burn up to 80 calories a day when used with exercise.

In addition to the direct health benefits of black tea, you're also increasing your water intake, which is often used alone to help in the weight loss process. And, of course, the more tea you drink, the less soda you'll drink, meaning fewer calories consumed.

Gourmet Black Tea
This is where I buy most of my tea. It's gourmet, and top quality, but the prices are quite reasonable. Shipping's only $3.75 for orders under $50, and free for orders of $50 and over.

I particularly like their loose leaf herbal tea. Much better than you can find in most stores.
Assorted Tea
Where you can find a large assortment of teas. Plus, an article on the health benefits of chamomile.
