Best Tropical Fruits: Papaya

Papaya is a tropical fruit available throughout the year. Some of its health benefits are:
1. It contains the enzyme papain is an enzyme which helps digestion. Papain present in green papaya is also very active against deficiency in gastric juice, unhealthy mucus in the stomach, dyspepsia and intestinal irritation.
2. Ripe papaya is very good for the prevention of constipation.
3. Papaya juice helps relieve infections of the colon.4. The powerful anti-oxidants present in papayas help prevent the oxidation of cholesterol, thus preventing heart attacks or strokes.
In addition, papaya contains (per 100 gm.) the following:
Vitamin A: 1,750 I.U, Vitamin C: 61.8 mg., Calcium: 24 mg. , Phosphorus: 5 mg., Potassium: 257 mg., and Vitamins B3, E and K, Iron, and Magnesium.

1. It is a good source of vitamin C and vitamin A as it has a high concentration of beta-carotene.
