Wanna work together for a healthier year?

This is my treadmill - a very lonely member of the family. Well, not for long! This year something amazing is going to happen - it's actually going to be used!! Really! It has been used for several days so far, and I plan to continue. (I'm actually starting to enjoy it, too!) Along with my new goals for the year, I have decided that I must find ways to be healthier. It's not my favorite thing - exercising and dieting - yuck, there are so many other things I would rather think about than them. My health was rather rough last year - enough that it scared me - alot. I want to do something to improve my health. I'm only 42 years old. That's not too old to improve, is it? I figured that the only way that I can keep on an exercise plan and diet is that I document it for the public. Hopefully this will motivate me to keep on track.

I would love to hear your suggestions for healthful foods, exercises to change from a blob to a healthy adult, and other tips you have. I could use your help on staying on track. Please let me know if you are on a health journey, also. It would be fun to have some internet health buddies!

*January 2011 ~ I won't tell you what my starting weight was (maybe later if I get braver), but I will say that I lost 9 pounds!!
*February 2011 ~ I only lost 5 pounds this month, but I guess it is something. My favorite jeans are feeling mighty loose!
*March 2011 ~ 8 pounds lost in March!
*April 2011 ~ 6 pounds lost this month!
*May 2011 - Another 6 pounds in May! With the warmer weather, I pulled out a pair of jean shorts that I haven't worn since the fall. I'm happy to say that there were several inches between me and my shorts!
~~ 34 pounds lost so far! ~~
*June 2011 - 2 pounds more lost. I was hoping for more because I walked much more this month with the nice weather and time due to summer vacation from school teaching!

How many calories do you think I could lose an hour by writing Squidoo lenses? LOL!
~ If I could just figure out a way to attach my laptop to the treadmill ...

5/31/11 ~ I just wrote a page about my health story on Wizzley called Creating a New Me!
For the 1st time, I had enough guts to put a real picture of me online ... hope I don't scare anyone!

Make some goals & plans!

Have an ultimate fitness goal, but break it up into smaller realistic goals that are more manageable to obtain.

Celebrate each accomplishment, then take a step to the next level!

I have to change my lifestyle in both diet and exercise to improve my health. I'm not a health expert, but I want to learn and try my best to follow a better plan. To learn, I'm researching many websites, books, magazines, and more. I've decided to add a "health tips" as I learn them as a way for me to be reminded of what I learn, and hopefully help anyone else who may be interested. So, here goes!

Make a health journal!

Recording what you eat during the day and the amount of exercise you get supposedly will help to control what you eat, keep you honest with yourself, and help to make smarter meal choices in the future.

    The fact that I am getting older keeps me motivated. That, and the fact that I have only myself to rely on, so my body needs to be strong and healthy. No one is going to take care of me, but me! And that is great motivation.

    My brain gets a lot of exercise (I think) but the rest of me has to start moving more. Too much computer time and not enough exercise time.

Laugh!

Just watching me try to exercise probably gives my kiddos a good laugh! I get very upset at times about my weight and health issues, but crying is not going to do me any good. When situations make me emotional, I have a choice to laugh or cry. I choose to find a way to laugh if possible or try to find the lighter side of the issue.

Besides, did you know that laughing is good for your health in many ways? A good LOL is known to raise one's metabolism! So, let's laugh to good health! If you want to know more about how laughter affects your health, check out my friend Norma's page below.

    I'm still working towards that goal to start a healthier life by increasing my aerobic exercise ... at the moment, I am so busy with my "new" old house ... raking up leaves and nuts from the water oaks ... I've blown through over 3 dozen black trash bags. So, that's the aerobic for now ... sure would love to launch the health journal in 2012! Great idea.

    I was walking up and down my basement stairs for 3 minutes a few times a day, but now that it's winter I am getting lots of exercise shoveling snow and lugging firewood! Eating well and less junk - lots of veggies (I cook frozen ones since fresh don't last) -is an easy way to be healthier. Also - add flaxseed meal to your food!

I've tried to tell myself to exercise daily, but I am so far out of shape that I always fail and give up. This time I decided to try a smaller goal - once I master it, I'll try to increase the days and times. Do you think that will be more successful?

I exercise everyday... I have a dog and my mum is always making me walk him. Sunday is my ''day off'' but I spend about forty minutes walking to church so I don't really get away from it. Lately, I've been slacking off and just going to the park, sitting down somewhere and throwing the ball for my dog to chase, but in my active phases, I'll walk around the park about 10 times (to get my 10,000 steps in!), and I'll also do an hour on the crosstrainer every morning. I'm not doing anything extra at the moment, so my weight is at an all time high! I have maintained a five kilo weightloss since getting my dog though, my eating isn't quite as reckless as it was last year, and since I'm forced to leave the house everyday, I'm still doing something.

I was exercising 15 minutes every morning (doing TTapp), but I fell chasing my baby & hurt my knee, so I'm currently not doing anything. I really ought to be doing some light weight lifting with my arms while in recovering, but I'm lacking motivation right now I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant with #9 and eating a very strict sugar free diet in hopes of warding off gestational diabetes this time around. There's only so far your will power can take you though- and right now it's not taking me to exercise. ;-)

I'm still fighting that cold that I got at the end of January! My whole chest, throat, and head seem to be congested constantly. Sleeping has been difficult when I keep waking up coughing with a sore throat. When I have tried to exercise, the coughing starts up, also. I've been trying to still eat healthy - some days I do well, others not so well! Between teaching my kids, working, and recovering, I just never got to keeping track of my meals.

I don't get it. I started my new health journey because I was tired of not feeling well, but now that I am trying to eat better and move more, I was hoping to feel better. I'm still feeling sick, so what do I do?
