Alzheimers - What causes it? Any Precautions?
My aunt I think has alzheimers. Her husband is often irritated with her because she forgets things. There is a mess of something or the other. My uncle has no idea about alzheimers.
I find it very difficult to explain what is alzheimers to people who have never heard about it before. These are people who think that the affected person is hale and healthy but acts in a way that makes life difficult for others.
I welcome all your contribution to help such families.
I have no idea how this got to be marked as adult and if there is a way of changing it.
If you know how to do it, please post a comment.

There is no permanent cure for Alzheimers. That does not mean we cannot do anything about it.
There are a number of treatments which can keep the dreaded disease under under control.
The treatments combine Alzheimers medicine and non-medicated treatments.
The ongoing research in the field of Alzheimer is concentrated on reversal of nerve and brain cell damage. And also to further stop and reduce the degenerative condition in an individual. They are also working on the strategy to optimize the delay of disease and the role of cardiovascular and other health condition to affect the condition.
We must not forget that the core brainpower has been derived from the nutrition given at early age and this would not last lifetime. We need to supplement it on a regular basis. There are many over the counter supplements available that are fortified with zinc, magnesium, folic acid and other essential nutrients for brain. But taking these supplements alone will not work wonder over brain hence we need to put in adequate exercise too.
Try to challenge the memory often by engaging in memory games and other mentally challenging activities to ensure adequate supply of blood and oxygen to the brain. Taking care of heart and keeping the cholesterol and blood pressure in check also helps in clearing the arteries of any block to allow good flow of blood. Hormones, specially estrogen level should be kept in check as it affects our brain and leads to various diseases in longer run.

Remember A Scene Through A Snapshot
A good example is to use a memorization technique called the snapshot technique. The snapshot technique is a mnemonic method which concentrates on improving your memory by using vivid pictures and imagination. Pretend you are visiting a friend for the very first time. He has given you a sketch of where his house is located but you haven't been there yet.
Your most reliable tool now is just your memory and imagination. Imagining what you could possibly see along the way or how landmarks could appear in your mind is a great form of memory exercise.
A downhill road, a pink house, huge stone slabs, and a huge tarpaulin
Try to map out the landmarks mentioned above in your thoughts. Imagine how each of them would look if you see them. Just by imagining how each of the landmarks look like, your memory already distinguishes the physical form of each and their order in the list.
Now apply the snapshot technique. Think of a downhill road as steep as a rollercoaster rail track. Imagine how high it is from where you are standing. Suddenly you see yourself moving fast down the road and as you approach the end of the track, you see the mouth (which is the door) of a pink monstrous house getting bigger and bigger. The image terrifies you and the only way to move out of the way of the monstrous house is to hold on to the huge slab of stones which you pass by. You held on to one huge stone, and noticed that there is a tarp floating overhead. You pulled the tarp so hard and threw it over the pink house.
By following the scene and keeping in mind the details included, you will not only have a near-perfect map going to a friend's house (as cited in the example) but you will also improve the way you memorize and store important information.
Try to create your very own snapshot scenario and see how well you'll be able to retain the items.

It is a well-known fact that mind rules over the body and at times we feel ill because we are depressed or generally feeling low.
In India a majority of people believe in some supernatural force, and that gives them the required support during difficult times. Most people prefer to go to their place of worship rather than go to a psychiatrist. Many cannot afford it. But that is not the only reason.
A deep faith in a kind super power can boost up confidence and life up spirits to a large extent.
Similarly, if we are lucky to have a peaceful home atmosphere or we plan our daily life in such a way that we have time for healthy family activities, we can surely enjoy a good health.
