Childhood Obesity
Obese Children - A Growing Social Problem
These days a growing number of children are noticeably overweight and most suffer from a common condition we called "childhood obesity". As a result, many will risk suffering from heart diseases at a much younger age.
There are a few main reasons that led to this social problem.
Firstly, the widespread availability of what we called "fast food" or "junk food" that are low in nutritional value. Junk food primarily contains large amounts of saturated fat, sugar and salt as well as additives, and conversely low in proteins, vitamins and fiber. Despite this, they somehow still gain popular appeal amongst the children and even teens and adults as well. It has to do partly with the vast number of fast food joints and with the fast pace of life and work, it propels more and more people to embrace the habit of grabbing a quick bite or quick meal, and obviously at none other more appropriate place than the nearest fast food outlet! This has led to the unintentional consequence of putting on that excess or unwanted calories.
Secondly, the parents have not taken a serious view of such a problem with their children, coupled with the lack of discipline and incorrect mindset that it is alright to have their meals at Macdonalds regularly. After all, it's is being constantly branded by the media as a "family" restaurant, so it's fine! Most parents' often failed in communicating the correct eating habits to their children, as they are far too overwhelmed by the pressures of work & meeting the other needs & wants of their kids such as their schools grades and their many enrichment classes.
Lastly, children today lacked a fair amount of exercise and participation in healthy sports and hobbies like swimming, jogging, cycling etc that helps in their physical development and well-being, as there are far too many distractions like computer games, internet & TV programs to while away their time on and consequently shut their minds off from the healthy ones.
Our concerns go out to the kids themselves as we fear they may grow up into adulthood without resolving their weight problems and suffer all sorts of health risks. At the end of the day, parents would have to decide the fate of their kids and rein in the appropriate measures, habits and mindset to wean them off their indulgence and dependence on junk food, inculcate healthy eating habits and ensure that they get a fair amount of needed exercise.
And the time to act is now, before this problem reaches epidermic proportions.

Reduce Front Bulge Thru One Simple Exercise!
Recently, I've managed to reduce my tummy and waistline by quite a fair bit...thanks to one simple and easy exercise that anyone can do...in the comfort of your home.

Diet or Exercise?
Deciding between whether diet or exercise is the key to weight loss...
It is a known fact that the 2 most important areas for anyone wanting to lose weight are DIET and EXERCISE. But more often than not, one would just decide to focus on one area to achieve the maximum effect. So which is it - to go for a proper diet or to focus on regular exercise to shed that extra kilos?
One would argue that eating right or proper diet control is certainly the more effective way to weight loss, but for some people who are genetically fat or overweight, they may not achieve subtantial weight loss just by eating right or not over-eating for that matter. In such cases it makes great sense to compliment the dieting with regular exercise in order to achieve the desired weight reduction.
On the other hand, one would reason that just focussing on a proper and regular exercise regiment would lead to faster weight reduction as it helps to burn the unwanted calories almost instantly. This is definitely a fact. However, if one doesn't control the amount and type of food intake and choose to indulge in over-eating, one may need to put in more hours and the frequency of workouts in order to burn off the excessive calories due to such an eating pattern.
At the end of the day, assuming personal responsibility over our eating habits and exercise schedules should be the order of the day. Learning to understand how your body responds to food and exercise is crucial as it gives you an idea of how much of each is sufficient for you to achieve your weight loss objective to stay in the pink of health.
