Health Procedures
- Cryosurgery, My Personal Experience
- While I was pregnant with my daughter I had several PAP smears. When I was around six months pregnant the Doctor called and said they found some abnormal results with the tests and I needed to come in for more. My first thoughts were for the worst. I was pregnant after all, could this hurt my baby? I went in for the appointment scared out of my mind. The Doctor said I would have to have a colposcopy so he could get a better view of my cervix. The procedure itself was a little more painful than a regular PAP smear. They said someone would call in a few days with the results from the colposcopy. These were going to be a long few days.
Herbal Treatments
- Herbs for Treating PCOS
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome commonly referred to as PCOS is a health problem that can affect a woman's menstrual cycle, fertility, hormones, insulin production, heart, blood vessels, and appearance. In women with PCOS, the ovaries doesn't make all of the hormones it needs for any of the eggs to fully mature. They may start to grow and accumulate fluid. But no one egg becomes large enough. Instead, some may remain as cysts. Since no egg matures or is released, ovulation does not occur and the hormone progesterone is not made. Without progesterone, a woman's menstrual cycle is irregular or absent. Also, the cysts produce male hormones, which continue to prevent ovulation.
Usually the Dr will treat pcos with medicine such as birth control pills to regulate the woman's menstrual cycle, or use a diabetes medication such as metformin also known as glucophage. Metformin affects the way insulin regulates glucose and decreases the testosterone production. But these medicines have a lot of side effects of there own and many woman will not want to use them .So they look for other things that they can use and many turn to the use of vitamins and herbs. There are several herbs and vitamins that can be used in treating Pcos; we will take a look at some of the most used ones. - What is Vitex?
- Vitex is the common name for the Chaste berry. It has been used for many centuries to treat women with hormonal imbalances. Vitex works on the hypothalamus and pituitary glands. It increases the production of the luteinizing hormone .It also slows the release of the follicle stimulating hormones. This allows for a shift from estrogen to progesterone in the body causing a rise in the progesterone. Vitex is not a hormone .The changes in the progesterone levels are an indirect effect of the Vitex. This herb has been used in treating woman dealing with premenstrual syndrome as well as women that have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). A lot of women with PCOS do not have a period every month and thus do not ovulate. This is caused by a hormonal imbalance .The woman will produce an egg each month but there is not enough progesterone to allow the egg to release. Vitex can be very helpful to these women by allowing the body to produce more of the progesterone needed to cause the egg to be released .If the egg is not released each month it forms a cyst. Women with PCOS also can have a high prolactin level; Vitex can help lower this level as well.

Articles Discussing Diabetes,Insulin Resistance,Drugs used for Treatment
- Insulin Resistance
- Many people don't even realize they are already on the path to developing diabetes with a condition known as insulin resistance, a type of pre-diabetes, it is a growing national problem: Some experts believe half of all overweight or obese American adults are insulin-resistant. As women enter the years leading to menopause, the hormonal changes that trigger hot flashes and end menstruation make women more likely to add fat around the waistline than in other places. A key tip-off of looming trouble is a waistline over 34 inches, (For men, it's 40 inches.) Fat also builds up in the liver and other vital organs, predisposing them to insulin resistance, a condition in which insulin no longer can inject enough glucose into the body's cells for fuel.
- My Experience with Glucophage
- This is my first hand experience taking Glucophage, the side effects I experienced and how it made me feel. I have insulin resistance; it goes along with my PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). I had done all the research that I could on treatments for PCOS and the insulin resistance so I wasn't surprised when my doctor suggested I try Glucophage. I had read all about the side effects that I could have from taking the Glucophage. I knew all about how some people have an upset stomach for a few weeks after they start the Glucophage. I also understood there could be a severe side effect known as lactic acidosis, although this was rare.
- Double Diabetes
- There is a new threat to our health, it's known as Double Diabetes. This recent discovery is said to be from people showing the signs and symptoms of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

- Imagine if after every intimate encounter you were to break out in a rash and your most delicate body parts were to become swollen. Studies have found there are women that are actually allergic to sex. Now they are not allergic to the actual act of sex ,but to their partners semen. The proteins found in the semen are to blame for the allergic reaction. Some of the symptoms associated with an allergy to sex would include , swelling, itching, burning of the genital areas, and in severe cases women have broken out in hives and had trouble breathing. The symptoms of a sex allergy usually happen within minutes of the contact, but in rare cases could arise in hours or even a few days later.
- Ways to Cope with Stress
- Stress is a part of everyone's daily life. Maybe it is stress caused from your job, or an argument with a spouse or family member. Whatever the case stress can cause harm to you both physically and emotionally. Being stressed out all the time takes a terrible toll on a person's body. Stress puts them at risk for several health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, headaches, stomach problems and many others. Stress can lead to problems with eating and sleeping . Many people lie awake at night worrying about issues they have to deal with the next day or how they are going to get the bills paid on time this month. People often don't have a way to cope with their stress so they take out their frustration on others ,or their job performance starts to decline. - Germs in the Car
- These days lots of people are pretty much living out of their car. They use it for a dressing room, dining room and of course an office .I bet they never stopped to think about all the harmful germs that could be living along with them. A car is the perfect place for germs to breed, especially if it's left sitting in the hot sun for a few hours. Take a look at your car, if you have kids I can almost guarantee they eat in the back seat ,and maybe even drop or spill their food. Now you might pick up the food and clean up the spills, but are there still crumbs left that you meant to vacuum when you had the time. Just the time never came and now the crumbs have turned into harmful germs.
- Humiliation to Help Lose Weight
- What if the overweight people in our nation were made to wear little bikinis in a hope to humiliate them into losing weight? This technique worked for Kirstie Alley when she made the promise to appear on stage of the Oprah show in a bikini. A year later when she made her next appearance she was able to proudly show off her new thinner body.
Researches have discovered that by simply making a goal and telling people helps aid in the weight loss journey. Knowing that there are other people who will be watching and holding you accountable to your goal is sometimes enough to make a person stick to a diet or exercise plan. After all there is nothing worse then being humiliated when you do not keep your goal and this extra motivation might be all it takes to finally lose the weight. - My Personal Experience with Epidurals
- Whenever a woman finds out she is pregnant it seems to start her and everyone else to think about the labor and delivery.I bet I was asked a thousand times about my plans for delivery and would I choose to have an epidural. I was afraid of the epidural so I strongly stated my answer of No!! I was going to tough out the pain of labor and childbirth. After all our mothers did it and never had any type pain relief so why couldn't I? Through out my pregnancy I heard how great the epidural could be, how it made all the pain go away. I did my research on the epidural and what it entailed, but I was still committed to having a natural birth. This was until I found myself in labor for three days straight. On the third day I finally gave in, I remember how scared I was. I asked the nurse if it would be that bad and she said no it would be fine. So I agreed to have the epidural ,I would of agreed to chopping off my legs if it made the pain go away at that time.

Hi Heather. Great lens. Sorry to hear about your experience with the epidural, but it really is hard to connect it with your back pain since the pain didn't start until 2 years AFTER the epidural. There are several other, more likely sources of your pain, including ruptured disk. Whatever the cause, I hope it resolves and you feel better soon!!! Posted February 23, 2008 |
