Eating healthy foods can give you energy and actually help you maintain a healthy weight

Eating healthy is very important today now more than ever as we are seeing more and more childhood obesity. The key is to maintain a balanced but healthy eating lifestyle and exercise. Not just for kids but for parents too.

Healthy Energy Foods for Families

Many families choose to consume sugary, processed foods and drinks instead of looking to whole foods for energy. Part of the problem is that many families rely on TV advertising for direction. They are not well-informed or encouraged to eat healthy.

People are often fooled to believe that stimulating foods such as soft drinks, sugar, and sports drinks provide energy, but instead they cause your body to get tired. They give you a small boost of energy, but only for a short period of time. It's the same effect that drugs have on the body.

So what are some healthy, natural foods that provide better quality energy?

Our family loves consuming the following:

Spirulina. If you haven't tried spirulina then you're missing out on some big time energy and nutrition. It is a nutritionally dense blue green algae, rich in protein, Beta Carotene and B vitamins, especially B12. Our family loves this ingredient in our nightly green drink.

Goji berries. They have 500 times more vitamin C per ounce than oranges. One of our kids loves eating goji berries by themselves. But be sure to only give your kids a small handful per day.

Raw cacao (nibs or powder). This is an incredible source of magnesium and antioxidants. We add this ingredient to a trail mix. It is the perfect snack food. Try mixing it with sunflower seeds and the next energy food I'm about to tell you about.
