I love strawberries... what nutritional value do they have? Excellent lens full of useful information.
  • transfatfree Apr 3, 2012 @ 5:27 pm | delete
Hi - Strawberries are great choice to include in your day. They are filled with vitamin C and are a good source of fiber, so enjoy!!

I recently read a book by nutritionist, Sally Fallon. She talks about Phytic Acid in grains, nuts and legumes. Phytic Acid is a substance found primarily in grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds that inhibits your absorption of minerals. The phytates act as a barrier preventing absorption of the nutrition in the seed.
The most effective preparation technique for all of these foods is either pre-soaking or fermentation.... Best wishes!

Thank you for this long and exhaustive list of healthy foods. Most of these foods if taken regularly can help reduce weight without even dieting and exercising. Raw nuts, berries, flax seeds etc are very good foods for fat burning. Thank you

Excellent and thorough lens on this very important subject. I personally love Kashi cereal and eat it every morning. If you remember to shop on the outside isles of the supermarket, you'll be eating healthy!

This lens was wonderful! I've never heard of the Bear Naked products but you can bet that I'll be looking for those at the grocery story next time I go. Thanks so much for such an information-packed lens! Squid blessed!!
  • transfatfree Feb 15, 2012 @ 1:21 pm | delete
While my grocery store has a couple of the Bear Naked products, I've actually found the best selection of them at Target stores. Check Target for them in their cereal aisle.
  • paullenton Feb 2, 2012 @ 8:10 am | delete
We need more of these and less trash food, eh?
  • HeathLiving Jan 31, 2012 @ 10:14 pm | delete
What a nice long list of healthy food suggestions! Your food and low fat snack lists are well selected, however, the soft baked chocolate cookies are my favorite.

Blueberries, Spinach, Broccoli and soy products are the supplements which people does not use much. These products are having high volume of useful ingredients needed in human body. Thanks for the great ideas. I'm always looking for new and fresh food to eat.
  • chicandsavvy Jan 25, 2012 @ 5:48 pm | delete
Great lens. Well researched. I love blueberries, dark chocolate, and greek yougurt. Have you tried them all together? Yummy! Part of the controversy surrounding corn syrup is that all American corn (except labeled organic) is GMO (genetically modified organism) No one really knows what effect that has on us as consumers.
  • vineliner Jan 20, 2012 @ 10:09 am | delete
I have definitely started to take a look at high fructose corn syrup. Bad, bad bad!
  • pattywatty8 Jan 14, 2012 @ 9:07 am | delete
Great job! I always stay away from high fructose corn syrup and I LOVE blueberries.
  • Scicere Reid Jan 12, 2012 @ 4:26 pm | delete
Good Food, thats what I think!
  • Magriet Jan 10, 2012 @ 8:43 am | delete
We should really steer clear of artificial sweeteners! The only problem is, I have been using them for so long I cannot get anything sweet enough for my liking with sugar anymore! So beware, the is a monster lurking in those artificial sweeteners!
  • paullenton Jan 9, 2012 @ 12:31 pm | delete
I love this lens! I'm recommending it on my 3 related lenses. Good work!

I have tried most of the healthy snacks you suggest and I like them! Not as much as chocolate, but they're good! Great lens!
  • MyKitchen Dec 5, 2011 @ 9:37 am | delete
Lots of good info here. Problem is, once you are used to the extreme sweetness of artificial sweeteners it is difficult to quit! No sugar is ever sweet enough again.
  • eileen_morey Dec 2, 2011 @ 10:43 am | delete
Great lens! I found this when I was looking for more healthy eating tips. I was pretty amazed when Capri Sun beverages, which were HFCS-free until recently, now include high fructose corn syrup. By contrast, it's become easier to find things like ketchup, pizzas, and snacks with sugar instead of artificial sweeteners. (Sierra Natural soda is a rare treat in my kitchen, but my family loves it.)

Great lens, I just have to mention soy products are not always healthy and low fat is not suitable for kids.
  • FitnessTom May 11, 2011 @ 9:25 pm | delete
Also, the low-fat foods use sucrose which is a little more expensive but the exact same thing as high fructose corn syrup in your body.

  • howtoburnbellyfat Jul 15, 2011 @ 9:12 pm | delete
Actually they're delicious. I always make them during weekend with my friends going to my place.
  • ratetea Mar 11, 2011 @ 3:31 pm | delete
I think there's one key thing to look at when considering whether a food is healthy or not. Is the food a whole, natural food? Or is it a processed food? Processed foods are often high in empty calories--sugars, refined carbs, and they often have harmful additives. I think you're a bit too hard on nuts in this lens. Yes, nuts are high in fat. But is fat really bad for you? I don't think it is. Trans-fat is bad for you. But the fat in nuts, or in fish, or in healthy, grass-fed beef even is really not that bad for you. Many Americans have trouble dieting because they eat too much sugar and white bread and they don't eat enough fat or whole grains!

you did a great job on teaching people what is good for them. keep up the good work.

Great tips! I loved the list of healthy foods for kids. My kids love turkey slices wrapped around low-fat string cheese. They don't even miss the bread.

Speaking of bread, I too have found it difficult to find bread without high fructose corn syrup. I have a grain mill, so I generally make homemade bread. However when we do have to buy it, we get Ezekial bread. I love that they have a sprouted variety, which makes it even more nutritious.

I'm a big drinker of diet pop. I'm a diet controlled diabetic and it's the one treat/junk foods that's left to me. I've heard the weight gain theory before and though I can't say it's false, I can say that not all the body believes it's sugar or I'd be in a lot of trouble. Still would be interesting to find out more about it. Thanks for the great lens.
