Soy - One of the Healthiest Foods in a Vegetarians Diet

Soybeans have been part of a vegetarian's diet since the beginning. However, other people don't think so much of our little friend.

Thanks to research for good healthy foods, soy has found its way to a wider audience. Let's look at some of the benefits of having soy in your household. You might just find you actually like soy.

Taking a Look at Tofu

tofuTofu or Tempeh is soy's other face. It is considered by many vegetarians as the vegetable meat. In fact there are many ways to make tofu part in your daily meals. You can even make it taste anyway you want based on the ingredients you add. You can just fry it by itself. Stir-frying with vegetables is another way. You can, also, have tofu barbecue. For special occasions, you can bake it with pasta.

Tofu is a first-rate meat substitute, cholesterol free and low in calories. If you are a very particular person, you can buy organic and pesticide-free soybeans products as well. They are quite expensive though. So even if you only include it in your meals a few times a week, you are already receiving better benefits than others who do not eat tofu.

Soy Milk

soySoy milk is another common product of soybeans. You can add it in your cereals, shakes, flans, pancakes, sweet porridge, chocolate drinks and even mix it in cakes.

Soy milk might taste different from cow's milk but it is still tasty in its own way. For lacto-intolerant people (those who cannot digest lactose in milk), this is a good choice. One can consume the required protein and calcium without experiencing bloating or indigestion.

I do realize that vegetarians and vegans have switched from meat to soy as a viable protein source. I am sorry but on Soy I must disagree with you as to it's health benefits. Because compounds in soy mimic estrogen it should never be eaten on a regular basis by anyone. Even 1 serving per day can alter a mans sperm count so you can imagine the effect that it is having on young children. Other studies are suggesting that it can affect sexual development, increase the odds of thyroid and alzheimers, and could possibly be one of the causes of Chronic bowl disease.

I've been drinking soy milk daily for over twenty years. Began with WestSoy, but switched to Unsweetened Silk which I think beats them all. The sweetened varieties are just too overpoweringly sweet (although I do admit to adding half a packet of sweetener to a glass of Silk). Thumbs up and tweeted. I'll be checking out those links you supplied, too!
