Discover How To Have Healthy Babies - Now And Forever

Everyone wants a happy healthy baby! I believe, we would all agree with that statement. We want our babies to be healthy now and healthy forever. Because, as we know, babies grow into toddlers, children, teenagers, and finally adults. Just wishing and hoping to have a healthy baby will not make it so.
If we are fortunate enough to live a long life, it will become obvious that heredity certainly does play a part in the diseases that we are predisposed to getting. When considering ones individual hereditary back ground, it should actually help us in making better choices concerning our health. Give your baby a head start to begin life as healthy as possible. Make choices that build good health. Let's explore some of the ways to ensure having good health, and raising a well child.

1. When preparing for your healthy baby, a great place to begin, is try your very best to eat a well balanced diet. Avoid junk food, which really means, avoid foods with little or no nutritional value, by replacing them with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grain carbohydrates, protein, and mostly healthy fats (using less saturated fats).

2.Getting at least eight hours or more of sleep each night is more important than you may realize.

3.Keeping your emotional and mental health in check, can make a big difference in yours and your baby's health.

4. Finally, avoid foods that are grown with harmful hormones and chemical pesticides. Also, avoid applying harmful chemicals to the skin. Ideally, a good health program should be started up to two years before the birth of a baby. Especially, if the mom has been in ill health, or recently given birth. It may take this amount of time for the body to become built up enough nutritionally, to produce the healthiest baby.

But, since we don't always live in an ideal world, it's best to begin your health program as soon as you become aware that good health practices can make you and your children healthier. I wish that I would have known much of what I want to share with you before I became pregnant with our first baby girl, which died at five days old from a congenital heart disease thirty eight years ago.

My husband and I were very confused. We both consoled one another, that I had not done anything that could have caused our tragedy. But, I needed to know what could have possibly gone wrong. This is not about guilt or blame. I don't blame myself. "If" there was something I did, I will never really know, for sure, exactly what caused her abnormality. I did the best that I knew at that time. What I have discovered is that it is extremely important to educate yourself, and then be sensible (not to fanatical). Then, take any new information, process it, decide if or how this new information can apply to your situation, then make your best educated decision for yourself and your baby.

My hope is that this information will help guide you on your journey, for your "healthiest baby" now, and forever!

Healthy Babies Need Healthy Parents

Natural Healthy Energy

texture4892583You are going to need a ton of energy to raise your babies over the next twenty years, and in order to feel energetic, you will also need to make healthy choices for yourself. I believe most parents want their children to have a natural, healthy energy, but not where they are bouncing off of the walls, as is all to common these days. But, where ever you are in your quest for a healthy family, now would be a great time to begin your journey.

You may be just beginning , or possibly you have tried to live a healthier lifestyle, but have found it difficult to stick with it. It's not always easy. Just remember that Rome wasn't built in a day.

There are many reasons that can cause us to get off the track. It is a little extra work to eat more healthy, and to cook healthy meals. It may cost a little more, at times. And, I know from experience, that if your partner isn't feeling as interested in a healthier lifestyle, there will certainly be a struggle with moving forward to quickly. Likewise, if you have children who don't want to cooperate,(this may happen as children grow older, as some have more rebellious personalities). As it becomes more difficult to please everyone, this may cause you to want to retreat.

But, as you continue to educate yourself about the benefits of choosing health over sickness, it will become much easier.

Consistently choosing healthy foods over junk food, will soon make a difference in your families health. Try it, and you will find out for yourself.

It's is important to eat well, sleep well, and exercise. While this will be more difficult immediately after the birth of a baby, try to do the best that you can.

Begin with baby, baby steps. Especially in the beginning, don't try to make big changes. Make changes you can live with, then continue to build on those changes. You will never regret making this effort.

Delicious Fruits and Vegetables

Fresh Is Always Best

During pregnancy, try to eat as many fresh fruits and vegetables
as possible. Fruits and vegetables are very "nutrient dense", therefore, you will be able to eat less in order to meet your daily requirements for a healthy baby.

You will also feel more satisfied, and not be as tempted to over eat foods that don't build good health for a growing baby.

When your baby is old enough to eat pureed foods, a good idea is to start them out on pureed vegetables, rather than their first food experience being "sweet" fruit.......

Recently a friend, with a nine month old baby, told me that she started her baby on vegetables, and he loves "all of his vegetables."

So that is definitely worth a try! It could make your life much easier around the dinner table for years to come!

Twelve Ways For FamiliesTo Begin Building Better Health

Natural Healthy Family

Remember to always check with your baby's doctor before beginning any new food.

Breast milk or a good quality formula is the best food for baby, for the first year. It is best to wait to give solid food until after six months of age, unless your baby is showing all of the markers for being ready for solid food. It is very important to "not" make solid food the main priority for the first year.

But, when you do begin to add solid foods, please make sure to give baby good wholesome foods from this list. In order to grow strong healthy bodies, we all need healthy vitamins and minerals. Junk food can not grow a healthy body!

It's O.K. if you can't afford to do the whole list today. Begin by picking one or two foods from this healthy foods list, and get started, You'll be glad as you begin to see yourself and your children growing healthier, and also, making fewer sick visits to the doctors.
  • 1.Drink the cleanest, most purified water available

2.Drink organic milk. Eat organic yogurt with live cultures. Children, especially under school age, should use whole milk dairy products

    3.Eat organic eggs

4.Eat "natural" white cheese. Yellow dye is added to make cheese yellow. (eating dye is never good for you)!

5.Avoid white bread and white flour. Use organic whole grain flour and bread. These include many more vitamins, and are much better for your digestive system

6.Avoid MSG (monosodium glutamate) which is in many packaged products, can soup, etc.

7.Avoid hydrogenated oils (trans fat) found in margarine, many crackers, store bought soup, etc ( these oils scar and clog your arteries)

8.Use healthy oils. Such as extra virgin olive oil for salads and vegetables, lighter olive oils for baking. Pure butter is healthy for children, and adults when used sensibly. (Adults with high cholesterol need a doctors guidance in this area)

    9.
Try to use as little white sugar as possible. Avoid corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, and chemically man-made artificial sweeteners. For babies that are over 1 year old, it is acceptable to sweeten some foods with a little pure maple syrup, molasses, or honey. (Honey can be harmful to babies under one year old!)

    10.
Try to eat less meat. If possible, eat "grass fed" beef that is free of antibiotics, hormones, and pesticides. Where as, corn fed cows are not free of these chemicals

11.Eat chicken that is free of antibiotics, hormones, and chemical pesticides. "Now" available in most grocery stores

12.Eat as many organic fruits and vegetables that you can afford. A good place to begin eating organic produce is by looking over the so called "dirty dozen" list (Below). This list contains produce which have the highest concentration of pesticides. Find the ones your family eats most often. . Then choose those to begin eating organic.. Even picking one or two from this list would be a start at "reducing pesticide ingestion within your family".

THE DIRTY DOZEN

High Pesticide Foods

According to the EWG, (The Environmental Working Group) this list of fruits and vegetables are known as the 'dirty dozen', because they are conventionally grown with high amounts of pesticides.

To avoid many harmful toxins, try to replace your favorites from the following list, with the "organic version" of these fruits and vegetables.

There is mounting evidence that even small amounts of pesticides and chemicals used for growing food can cause lasting health problems, especially to babies before and after birth. There little bodies are not equipped to cleanse so many toxins.

As always, when possible, grow your own food, or buy locally from trusted organic gardeners.

When possible, try to buy the organic version of these fruits and vegetables.

BANANAS

Bananas : The World's Most Eaten Fruit

No Wonder Almost Everyone Loves Bananas!

Bananas are so easy to eat.

Simply peel back the skin with your fingers, and it is ready to enjoy.

Americans eat 28 pounds of bananas a year, per person!

This is a very good thing because, bananas are an amazing, healthy fruit.

Bananas are full of good nutrients.Including important vitamins and minerals.

Bananas have quite a number of valuable, usable nutrients. But,

the most significant are potassium, vitamin C, fiber, and vitamin B6.

Always Pack BANANAS

Don't forget to pack a banana in your diaper bag. I can't say enough good things about banana's. Before your baby is old enough for fruit, just eat it yourself when you get hungry. It will give you energy. It satisfies hunger, and will help you to wait for your next meal when necessary.

YOU AND BABY WILL LOVE THIS

When baby has begun to eat fruit, bananas are the perfect food to take on an outing. Try this easy way to feed baby. Peel banana back just a few inches, break off tip. Using baby spoon, begin to gently scrape top of banana, and feed baby. Continue to peel, and feed just what is needed. So Easy!

BABY FOOD GRINDERS

This is a must have item!

With your own baby food grinder, any wholesome food can become baby food within a minute or two. This is a purchase that pays for it self many times over. I used a baby food grinder exclusively, and loved the ease of it !

The Clean 15 - Choose These First

Fruits And Vegetables That Contain Less Pesticides

type=textMany thanks to "The Environmental Working Group" for the enormous help in supplying this list. I'm sure you will find it to be quite useful.

It can better help you plan your budget by choosing these conventionally grown fruits and vegetables. Their thicker skin or covering, is said to help minimize the amount of pesticides that enter the produce.

Choose frozen first, then fresh second. Frozen foods are picked at their peak of freshness, then flash frozen. This allows for vitamin retention and the final fresh quality, especially, if they are not over cooked.

This usually will mean a healthier product, compared to fresh purchased produce from the grocery store, which has been shipped a few hundred miles, and possibly sits in a store another few days. So, this does appear to be a safer option, when it is not possible to purchase only organic foods.

Baby's Delicate Skin - Be cautious

Your baby's skin is fragile, much thinner than adult skin. Everything that comes in contact with your skin is then absorbed through the skin, and ends up in the bloodstream, and than finally enters into your internal organs. Never use products that contain petro- chemicals, phthalates,or parabens (which include methylparaben, propylparaben, ethylparaben, butylparaben). These are linked to breast cancer, liver and kidney damage, and infertility.

Your Babies Skin

Know What Chemicals Your Putting On Your Families Skin

type=textNewborn babies are born with a few hundred chemicals already in their bodies. These chemicals are absorbed, or pass through the placenta.

As Americans, we often believe that any skin care products we buy for our families, will surely be safe for our skin and our bodies. The truth is that many products have harmful chemicals in them.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG), have tested and identified as many as 455 chemicals in the human body.

The FDA does not regulate the safety of many of the ingredients that are used in cosmetics and skin care products. When you use many of these products on yourself or your baby's skin, you are exposing yourselves to possible side effects, which have been linked to cancer birth defects, learning deficits, ADHD, autism, infertility, damage to the reproductive system, liver damage, and nervous system damage. Studies on lab animals have caused all of these serious conditions.

Let's take a look at some of the common chemical ingredients that you will find in some of your daily routine products.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate(SLS) and Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate(SLES)

SLS is effective in the removal of residues and oily stains. In industrial products, it is used in higher concentrations in products that include car wash cleaners, and engine degreasers. Lower concentrations include shampoo, toothpaste, shaving foam, many hygiene products, bubble bath and cleaning products. SLS is a known skin and eye irritant, which becomes worse with hypersensitive skin. It has also been found to harm the immune system. SLES is a very inexpensive foaming agent. It is found in toothpaste, soaps, and detergents, etc. It has been shown to cause skin and eye irritation.
Some products contain low levels of 1,4-dioxane, a known carcinogen. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does encourage manufacturers to remove 1,4-dioxane, but it is not a federal law to require them to do so.

Parabens

Parabens are used as preservatives in cosmetics, moisturizers, shampoo, and topical pharmaceuticals. Parabens are classified xenoestrogens, which are synthetic chemicals that mimic estrogen. These xenoestrogens are also believed to be one of the causes of infertility. They are considered potential endocrine disrupters, and have been linked to hormone disorders and breast cancer. Parabens, in some people, have caused contact dermatitis and rosacea.
The most widely used parabens are butylparben, ethylparaben, methylparaben, and propylparaben.

Phthalates

Phthalates are synthetic fragrances. The word "fragrance" as an ingredient means there are phthalates present , unless it specifies"no phthalates" and the product is using a non-synthetic fragrance, which could include, essential oils of mint, lavender, vanilla, or orange. Phthalates have shown to lead to liver cancer and birth defects. They are known to have endocrine disrupting compounds. Endocrine disrupters confuse normal hormone production. This can feminize boys, and cause boys and girls to enter puberty as early as 9 -11 years old, much earlier than was once considered the normal age, which is approximately 12-14 years. Pregnant women should especially try to avoid phthalates, as high levels in the blood and urine have proven to cause developmental problems with boys genitalia.

Phthalates are also used to make plastics more flexible. Products like plastic shower curtains, baby's vinyl books, rubber ducky, teething rings, any soft plastic toys that are not labeled phthalate free. Phthalates are easily absorbed through our skin, finger nails, and lungs.

BPA - Bisphenol-A

Products that contain BPA are made of hard clear polycarbonate plastic resins.
Products such as computers, eyeglasses, toys, baby bottles, plastic plates, spoons, etc. BPA is considered an estrogen-like endocrine disruptor, known to impair brain function, cause cancer, induce early puberty, shown to cause obesity, cardiovascular damage, and adult-onset diabetes. BPA can leach into food from plastic food containers, or plastic baby bottles, especially when food or milk is heated in plastic containers. Fortunately, it is now much easier to find some baby products that are without BPA.

Located on the bottom of most plastic food containers, you will find a broken triangle with a number inside of the triangle.

Containers with the # 1, 2, and 4, are made of polyethylene, and # 5 containers are made from polypropylene. These are considered safer.

Again, plastic which is either heated in a microwave oven, or put into a dishwasher is most likely to leach more chemicals, as heat breaks down the plastic. If you do store food in plastic, always switch the food into glass or ceramic, which is lead-free before heating. Also, if you reuse plastic containers that you have purchased food in, ( like butter containers) only store similar type foods in them, as these containers are designed to only be safe for those specific ingredients.

Foods stored in plastics with the # 3, 6, 7 are most likely to leach chemicals. These are made from either PVC, PS, or polycarbonate and will have a #7, and is a softer plastic, which may leach BPA and should be avoided. Number 3 may leach phthalates, and #6 may leach styrene.

Mineral Oil or Liquid Petroleum and Paraffin

These are by-products of crude oil. These oils are dangerous to your health, because as they circulate through the blood stream, they surround the important fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, and carry them out of the body, without allowing them to absorb properly.

PLA - Polylactides

Good news! Products made of PLA are considered to be free of leaching. They are a new
corn based product that is completely biodegradable, and phthalate-free.

Compare Conventionally Grown Cotton Against Oranically Grown

Organic Baby

Cotton that is conventionally grown, is grown with 140 pounds of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides per acre, per year. To name a few of these chemicals, which include cyanide, dicofol, naled, propargite, parathion, and trifluralin. These chemicals are known to cause cancer.

During the manufacturing processes, there are even more chemicals applied to the fabric. These chemicals have names that you will recognize, but, are sadly in yours, and your baby's clothing that are conventionally grown. They include heavy metals, ammonia, petroleum products, stain and flame retardants, and formaldehyde.

They have been linked to cancer and leukemia. At least seven of the fifteen chemicals used to grow conventionally grown cotton are known carcinogens (cancer causing). The proven side effects are many, including allergies, skin irritation, irritation to nose, throat, and eyes. These chemicals are absorbed through the skin and go into the bloodstream and internal organs.

On the other hand, "Organic Cotton" is chemical free, as it is grown without chemical fertilizers, or any pesticides. This means that organic natural white clothing, does not contain any harmful chemicals to enter through the skin.

You can purchase organic cotton clothing in a wide range of prices from very expensive.to inexpensive. Examples are Stewart+Brown, and Linda Loudermilk are expensive, well made brands. Walmart and Target also carry inexpensive organic clothing that are great for the price. Beside the fact that organic cotton is free of harmful chemicals, it is also soft to the touch.

Your Healthy Organic Baby

Organic Cotton Baby Clothes

The less chemicals that are put on baby's skin, will result in less chemicals circulating through baby's body. Always wash all purchased clothes, blankets, etc. This will help to remove some of the chemicals from any conventionally processed clothing you may have. It will also help rid clothes of any bacteria. After all , who actually knows how many hands have touched things before you receive them.

New About Me

I will always try my best to tell and teach you information that I have found helpful for me and my family, but when you are reading information that I post, or anyone post for that matter, I recommend, that If something doesn't seem right to you, it is always important to use your own best judgment before trying anything new. If you are ever in doubt about what to do, ask your doctor, or do some of your own research. You will find the correct path for yourself.

And, please, please do not begin to feel guilty, or spend time worrying about all of this. But, if baby is spending all day teething on rubber ducky, replace it with an appropriate teething toy that is chemical free. Again, every small change will ultimately make a huge difference.

Spray baking sheet with organic vegetable spray

INGREDIENTS:

1. 1 organic egg

2. ½ teaspoon olive oil

3. ½ cup organic breadcrumbs

4. 1 Tablespoon organic whole oats

5. ¼ cup chopped fresh organic spinach
(or thawed frozen spinach-chopped)

6. ¼ pound ground chicken or turkey

or have a stomach ache.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I completely agree with you. I did give some thought to whether or not I should add some of this information. But, finally decided that it is better to be informed, and then you, as the parent can make the final decision as to what is best for you and your family. I agree with you completely about becoming aware of making healthy choices even before baby is conceived. On the other hand, many new parents (and not so new ones too) can get severely stressed thinking they might be inadvertently causing health problems in their children. We have to just do the best we can and make choices based on our own research and common sense and not get too het up about stuff we can't control.

Good lens - thanks for sharing all this valuable info.
