Here are some tips for healthy eating and exercise.

 

You can improve you and your family's health by making wise choices about eating and physical activity. These healthy choices are so important for long term wellness. Healthy eating and fitness means a reduction in obesity, heart disease, stroke and cancer. It also means more energy, feeling better and looking good.

1. Begin your day with a nutritious breakfast! 

Breakfast gives you the "fuel" you need to start the day. We go 8-10 hours through the night without any food. A simply, nutritious breakfast could include a high fiber cereal with fruit and fat-free milk, or whole wheat toast with peanut butter and a scrambled egg.

2. Get Moving! 

It's easy to add exercise to your daily routine. Walk, bike or jog 3-4 times a week, for 30 minutes. Go for a walk during your lunch break. You will get your blood pumping which will make you feel better and able to think more clearly. Make simple changes such as taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or parking in the back of the lot. Try doing a physical activity with a friend or family member instead of watching t.v

3. Eat Smart! 

Balance your food choices. Combine lean protein and carbohydrates in meals such as chicken breast with a salad. Use whole foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains as much as possible. Choose snacks from different food groups, such as celery and carrot sticks with peanut butter, or an apple and a handful of almonds. Healthy food choices gives your body the "fuel" it needs.

4. Work up a Sweat! 

Improve the health of your heart and lungs with regular vigorous exercise. Breathing hard and sweating means you are getting an effective work-out and helps to relieve stress and anxiety. You will be able to sleep better, think more clearly and lose some weight. Get your kids involved so they will begin good lifelong exercise habits.

5. Make it Fun! 

Find activities you can do with friends or family. Be adventurous. Try new sports, games, and other activities such as taking a dance class. Eat healthy foods you like and try new foods as well. Experiment with different cooking styles and healthy recipes. Set goals for yourself, write them down and enjoy your success!
