The healthy dog food diet
Although there are a few good quality dog foods out there and kudos to those brands, but remember that dog food like many other processed foods are made in batches. Giant batchs resulting in literally TONS of dog food. Can this be a healthy dog food diet?I don't know about you, but my gut wrenched when I overheard the news story about all the "tainted" dog food. Tainted may mean its taste was off, "POISONED" better fits what happened to 1000's of animals. I could not live with the guilt if I had one of those poor animals that died as a result of that disaster. Many out there are still trying to cope with what they did.
Having researched many alternatives I felt that I could only control my pets diet if I make my own dog food MYSELF!
There are copious recipes available on line, but the most comprehensive and one that offers a lot of veriety is a book of recipes printed by John Miller.
With the cost of canned dog food today I find that to make my own dog food saved me money and was healthier for my dogs. I found this book to be a good investment.

It's not only good natural dog food, but it's made with stuff found in almost any kitchen. What is most odd is that I actually enjoyed making the healthiest dog food, made with ingredients I use in my own cooking!. . . no more lugging 50 pound bags out of the Pet Store while navigating the well-intentioned owners with their pets at the end of the 18 foot extension lead! . . .why is it, it's always the little ones that want to rip your leg off?

Since using John Millers recipe book, I have had multiple wins in the arena and ring. People ask what is it about your dogs? Why do they always look so "UP!" Well know you know too!The skeptical will continue doing what their doing with kibble and wonder why their dogs are always looking at my dogs butts!
Probably not the prettiest example but by making my own dog food and keeping them on a healthy dog food diet, they look great and have so much energy. Even their teeth are in top condition.

We all know the cost of buying doggie treats. Isn't it ridiculous!! Stuff they used to discard from animal carcasses are now being sold for exorbident prices! Not to mention equipment and of course the all important squeekies!
Now that I've begun to make my own dog food. Making my own treats is only a natural progression.
My dogs are very finicky about what they will put in their mouths (now that they are used to home prepared healthy dog food.) Nothing upsets me more than paying top dollar for a treat that the dogs put their noses up at.
Justin Bryce has published an incredible collection of easy to make healthy dog treats. Using his guidance one can be as creative as one likes and once finding just the right treat that makes training easier, make'em!
