I LOVE sandwiches, especially flatbread and Panini's. There is an herb that I add to most of my sandwiches. It Culantro, you get it fresh by the herbs and lettuce in the grocery store. It's a Spanish herb and kind of potent but when you add it to sandwiches, stews, grilled steak, and sometimes chili, it's sooooooo delicious!!!!!!!!! :)

It can be filled with feta cheese, tomato, green peppers (optional: cucumber, lettuce, onions, olives) 1-2 spoon extra virgin olive oil and oregano.

I think the BLT (among other sandwiches you showed) would taste even better on whole wheat bread and as stated by the person below, should be healthier than white bread. Love the selection of healthy sandwiches you showed none the less.

    Nice recipe, great len too.

Dont mean to critisise, but white bread isnt healthy. Try wholegrain. Spreads arent healthy either as they are trans fats. Butter is actualy better for you. Fillings are great though :-)

I've always said that a good sandwich is one of the great things that you can do for a meal. One slice of ham between two slices of generic white bread does not a true sandwich make! Thanks for these recipes.

I'm not fan of sandwiches although we use to eat a lot of them, for lunch or for dinner - it's a common use here for sandwiches. But for as long as they're healthy, sandwiches are always welcome on my table!
  • poddys Dec 19, 2010 @ 2:09 am | delete
I love sandwiches. My favorite growing up and even now is just cheese and tomato, with black pepper. It's so good. If I was going to Subway though, it would be roasted chicken breast, with lettuce, green peppers, black olives, parmesan cheese and louisiana hot sauce all over the chicken. No mayo etc, you don't need it, so it's healthy and packs a punch.

One of my favorite is chicken breast with walnut and fresh basil. Put this in a blender with either a little bit of olive oil to make this spreadable. Or mayo too, but olive oil is healthier. Spread on a good bread and enjoy.

You are such a star Julie, no question about it. Another excellent lens. I worked on a farm here in Ireland for years. Up early in the morning, took the sandwhiches I had made the night before to work. It reached the stage where I became sick of the sight of them. Always soggy the next morning as well, sis man. However if I had had these examples and someone to bring them to me. Why, that's a different story.

I don't know if my favorite sandwich could be called healthy as a whole. I have a couple of healthy ingredients on it though. Does that count? lol. I love to use a fresh sourdough flute, pastrami, turkey, and bacon, with pepper jack, Muenster, arugula, and a Dijon vinaigrette. Sound like too much? But, it's soooo gooood!!!

Excellent work! The avocado and tomato sandwich sounds great. I get those out in California when I visit, but they're not that big on avocado out here in Mass (so it's hard to find in restaurants). That healthy BLT sounds delicious too!

My most favorite sandwich to make at home is the very simple to fix BLT! Got to love the taste of that hot bacon next to the chilled tomato and the miracle whip! Wow, now I am so hungry! Great lens Julie! Very worthy of 5 stars and an Angel Blessing!
