There are a variety of antacids available in the market both in syrup and tablet forms. The active ingredient in these preparations helps o neutralize the digestive acids that manage to escape out of the gastric tract and into the esophagus causing the pain.
Antacids work almost instantly to relive heartburn; however, these are just temporary remedies which do not offer lasting reprieve from the condition. These preparations are only suited for occasional instances of heartburn. If you need antacids continually for two weeks or more to relieve heartburn symptoms, you should consult with your physician to rule out underlying health issues.

Ginger: Regular ginger added to your food is also extremely effective in curing heartburn. It helps to absorb the excess acids produced in the digestive system and prevents their reflux into the esophagus.
Fennel and catnip: Aromatic herbs such as catnip and fennel can also be used to keep heartburn at bay. Try chewing on a tea spoon of fennel seeds after your meals. Both these herbs help to balance the acid secreted in the digestive system.
