What Is Heartburn? 

Heartburn is literally a burning sensation in your chest when stomach acid leaks up into the oesophagus (the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach) or even the throat. It can be so painful and distressing you may even think you're having a heart attack. It may be felt as pain in the upper back even in the neck and arms.

Heartburn Or Acid Reflux 

Reflux is the term used to describe what happens when acid from your stomach leaks in to your oesophagus. This leaking is due to the sphincter or valve which connects your stomach to your oesophagus not functioning properly. It can be relaxed by certain types of food.

There are many over the counter remedies for heartburn such as antacids and they may sooth your symptoms temporarily they are not a long term solution. Prolonged use of antacids can actually cause harm.
