1. Food

Acidic, spicy and fried foods are common heartburn triggers. Eating large portions of food can also cause heartburn. Here are foods that have been known to cause heartburn.


  • Onions

  • Chocolate

  • citrus fruits

  • Tomatoes

  • Tomatoe Based Products

  • Peppermint

  • vinegar and acidic pickles

  • Relishes

  • High-fat food



To clearly define which foods cause heartburn in a specific individual, it may be necessary to keep a food diary for several weeks, noting what foods are followed by heartburn

2. Beverages

All types of alcohol can cause heartburn. Red wine is the most widely known to cause heartburn. Citrus Juices and carbonated beverages can trigger heartburn. Avoid all carbonated sodas. The carbonation may help you burp, which gives a feeling of temporary relief, but soft drinks are highly acidic.

3. Stress

Believe it or not but stress could be a contributing cause to your heartburn. The body makes more stomach acid in stressful situations. If you are under a lot stress then that could also be a contributing factor to your heartburn.
