Calculating Max Heart Rate 

The general guideline given for calculating your max heart rate is 220-your age. So if you are 20 years old, (220-20), your max heart rate should be around 200 beats per minute. This is a general guideline and this is some variation in this, so don't be alarmed if you are exercising with a heart rate monitor and notice your max heart rate is a little higher than the calculation says is possible. Heart Rate Zones 

Now that you know your max heart rate you can calculate at what intensity you would like to work at. Using the 20 year old example again, with a max heart rate of 200bpm. You may want to exercise at 50-70% of your max heart rate. So by calculating 50% of 200, and 70% of 200 you come up with a training zone of 100-140 beats per minute. This zone can be programmed into your heart rate monitor. A buzzer will sound when you are above or below your desired range, prompting you to speed up or slow down accordingly. A heart rate monitor can really help you exercise. As you know well by know, exercising is really really important for your mind body and spirit, not to mention longevity. If you want to live a healthy life then you need to start exercising. Some may ask what kind of exercise is best, well at the start anything is great! Any form of incidental exercise is wonderful for your body, park your car further away, so you have to walk more to work, you should also take the stiars whenever you can. these kidns fo things really add up in a healthy lifestyle. However it is also important to do some organised workouts. This is where a heart rate monitor really comes in handy. You can monitor the workout you are doing on your treadmill or bike. You can find out what levels you are working at, and this proves to be really important a lot fo the time. knowing what level you are working out at helps you to figure out what more you need to do, or how much less!

How Often Should You Exercise 

This question is asked by a lot of people out there. No one knows exactly how much they should exercise. However unfortunately there is no definitive answer. It really all depends on your goals.

This can entail many things such as parking your car further away from where you work and simply walking there. Or taking the stairs more often, or even just going for a light daily walk. 30 minutes a day of easy activity will keep you in good health. You can also participate twice weekly in something more strenuous, like going to the gym and using the treadmill or taking a class. Or going for a light run.

If you want to build muscle then you need to do weights 2-3 times a week. This will give your body enough stimulus to adapt. As you can see there are very many variables you need to worry about when you talk about how much you should exercise. it all depends on your goal and it is best to talk to your trainer.
