Different modes of application, and different active ingredients may be used, but the way these products work is always the same. Because the larval heartworms are passed to dogs when an infected mosquito feeds, it is very difficult to prevent infestation. Nuheart are a generic product using exactly the same quantity and quality of ivermectin as the original Heartgard brand. They are supplied as tiny soluble tablets that are easy to give.

Valuheart are another Australian made generic Heartgard, this time produced as a tiny ordinary tablet.

Heartgard Plus are similar chewable treats, but they contain an additional ingredient to deal with some intestinal parasites, including hook-worms and round-worms.

Discount Heartgard Plus for dogs is easily available online. If you opt for generic Heartgard Plus you might find it can provide up to an 80% lower price than choosing the original brand, and is also now available in similar chewable form.

Interceptor Flavor Tabs use an alternative to ivermectin, which destroys larvae more quickly, and so is great so long as you remember to use the products every month, but less effective if you forget a treatment. These are supplied as crunchy meat flavored treats.

Sentinel Flavor Tabs are similar but include an additional ingredient that helps deal with flea control by destroying juvenile fleas.
