Heaven: What Will It Be for You?

What Is Your Personal Heaven?

I have to say that I don't know. Although I am a follower of the words of Jesus, and do believe in some afterlife, i doubt that the full transfer of our personalities, still looking like our bodies at their best, to a Heaven is what it will be. But I don't know.

I do know that we are made of matter, which is made of energy. Matter cannot be destroyed, it only changes form and content. Thus when our bodies die, they become ashes or dust. Our essence is not of matter, but it is made of energy and like wise, cannot be destroyed, only change form.

When I was a kid I thought about my grandparents and other ancestors and tried to decide if they were happy for me, but decided that they

The Great Divorce

C.S. Lewis' Discussion of Heaven

C,S Lewis is famous for his fantasy world of Narnia which borrows heavily from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. A scholar and professor, he has also written non fiction Christian apologetics about thorny issues such as pain and temptation.

The Great Divorce is actually a fictionalize depiction of how he sees Heaven, or at least what has to happen to get there. We see the story of three people who just died, are a little confused, but are at the gates of Heaven.

The first, a factory foreman is greeted by a former worker, a man who was executed for murder. The foreman cannot accept that the murder is not only in Heaven, but his guide. Without even thinking about what he is doing, he clings to his prejudices as refuses to enter the "Kingdom of God" the very place he had looked forward to his whole life.

Thus we get some insight into what C.S. Lewis thought Heaven was or what we really needed to do to get there. What interested me is that

The Great Divorce is a very thought provoking book. It will challenge your ideas about Heaven, just as the guides tried to do for those who were not ready to enter.

I have chosen this volume as it also contains several of Lewis' books of apologetics.

Do You Believe? Do You Not Believe?

Well, my beliefs are a bit complicated, but I definitely believe that life doesn't end after the death of our bodies.

I can't hold with rigid doctrine - I do believe we have a definite energy. It's not inconceivable that it may keep going and may even reincarnate.

They Took a Picture of God!

In 1999 the International Special Olympics were in Raleigh. I volunteered to pick incoming athletes up at the airport. The planes were all late and one of our group was an air traffic controller. To kill some time he invited us up into the control tower. The first impression is just how dark it is in there. And it is totally dark, except for the screens.

On the screens were blips and lights tracking planes all over the country and the world. It looked as if they were being held up by the hands of God. And the thought crossed my mind:

Hollywood in Heaven

What Dream May Come Would Make an intersting Discussion Group With The Great Divorce!

Hollywood has many examples of Heaven and the afterlife some lovely, some creepy. I have given you a small sample here.

I would really recommend What Dream May Come. It is an extremely interesting portrayal, and coincides, I believe, with the vision that the Christian apologist C.S. Lewis presented in The Great Divorce. In fact, I would recommend the two of them for a discussion group on Heaven!
