Even-though I don't listen to country music any more, I sure did love watching this when I was growing up. I miss the BR 549.

It is a pity the show is not aired anymore:-(
  • ronberry Jan 24, 2012 @ 2:38 pm | delete
This is a fun lens - Grandpa Jones and Roy Clark on the banjos was one of our favorites. My Dad and I used to watch and I can remember being amazed (still am) at how they could make those banjos sing!

I miss the show... and the talent they had on it.

I used to love Hee Haw, Minnie Pearl was always my favorite.
  • COUNTRYLUTHIER Mar 9, 2011 @ 1:41 am | delete
That show was great. The comedic genius was off the scale and is sorely missed. A sprinkling of innuendo went sooooooo far back in the day! Great lens, thanks for the memories.
  • StephenC Mar 1, 2011 @ 6:43 am | delete
I watched this as a kid and still catch it on RFDTV. It was good TV. Sad to think most of those people are gone. But man, the talent. String Bean, Grandpa Jones, Minnie Pearl, Archie Campbell, the list goes on! Good clean fun!
  • WhitneyWells Feb 12, 2011 @ 9:27 am | delete
This was a great read! Well done!

Wishing you a Hee Haw Merry Christmas! -:)
  • tvyps Dec 19, 2010 @ 1:31 am | delete
How nostalgic! Did you know that Bakersfield, Buck's hometown, is also the hometown of Dwight Yoakum...and...the reason Bakersfield had so much country music is that it was the final destination of many Okies and other country folk as a result of the Dust Bowl and the survivors moving West? I miss old Buck, he was great!! Don't forget Merle Haggard, he was also from Bakersfield and anyone from there had their own distinct "Bakersfield Country" sound.

  • oldiesmusicnut Dec 9, 2010 @ 10:33 pm | delete
One of the corniest but most watchable variety shows on TV for so many years. "Lightning Fingers" Roy Clark is one of the best guitarists on the planet. I loved this show, and thank you for remembering it so fondly and so well!
  • Michaud68 Dec 8, 2010 @ 10:45 am | delete
Great Lens! I used to get forced to watch this show by my parents when I was a kid!

This was one of my favorite shows back in it's hay day. This brought back a lot of memories. Well done :)
  • CofCJenny Dec 5, 2010 @ 6:41 pm | delete
This is one show that I've always wanted to watch. My grandpa always watched the Opry every week so 'old' country music is something that I'm fond of, reminds me of him, and this is one show I've put on my list of shows to watch...eventually :-)
  • seegreen Dec 4, 2010 @ 5:08 am | delete
Oh my goodness! I remember watching HeeHaw! I also enjoyed Minnie Pearl, but then I'm sure an awful lot of people did.
  • JDWheeler Dec 3, 2010 @ 9:30 pm | delete
I remember watching Hee Haw on Saturday nights around 6 o'clock or so. My dad would grill out and it would always be ready by the time Hee Haw came on. Hee Haw 100%

  • Phillyfreeze69 Nov 26, 2010 @ 9:02 pm | delete
Hee Haw was a wholesome comedy television program that my entire family enjoyed watching. I remember quite vividly the one liners and Buck Owens expression as the punch line was said.

What I did not know until I was adult was that Roy Clark was a well respected Guitar player and studio musician that could play all genres on his instrument including rythm and blues. Ray Charles recorded several Country songs during his illustrious career. I am so glad that Hee Haw can still be seen on DVD.
  • lizziebeth Nov 25, 2010 @ 3:35 pm | delete
My dad really liked this show, so of course I got to watch it sometimes too. I liked the Gloom, Despair and Agony On Me song every time. Thanks for sharing about the show!

  • Graple Oct 22, 2010 @ 2:32 pm | delete
It's been a long time since I have seen Hee Haw. RFD Tv shows reruns and I watch that as often as I can. It's great fun seeing all of the classic country singers. One of my favorite cast members was Stringbean...I loved his "letters from home" segment. It's a shame that he and his wife were murdered by a burglar.
  • JimH Oct 14, 2010 @ 4:28 pm | delete
I can remember watching the show with my parents so many years ago ... you've done a great job capturing the feel of the TV series.

omigod, we LOVED Hee-Haw and never missed an episode! Two quick anecdotes to share with you about Hee-Haw. 1) trivia - Hee Haw was filmed in one big session, then the individual shows were basically edited together from the various clips. Hee-Haw was the first show to be created in this manner. Pretty cool, eh? 2) I met the Hagar Twins on a flight from North Carolina to California in the late 1970's - the plane made an unscheduled stop in Alabama or Arkansas, and the twins got on. They were sooooo nice to the people on the plane - walked back and shook hands with people, and let people take their pictures with 'em ... I have a polaroid packed away somewhere with my face cheek to cheek between them. Talk about a treasured memory! Loved this lens!!!

Used to watch Hee Haw religiously as a kid. Of course my favorites were all the "Hee Haw Honies", but the music was always good. I remember finding out that Buck Owens wasn't just a TV host that he was actually a very famous and talented musician.
