Helen Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Tuscumbia, Alabama, USA.
She died on June 1, 1968, in Westport, Connecticut, at the age of 87. - Helen Keller was an author, activist and lecturer. She was also deaf and blind. She overcame these disabilities and limitations and went on to accomplish many great things in her life.
- She was led out of darkness and silence though the persistance of her teacher, Annie Sullivan.
- A famous work called The Miracle Worker was derived from Keller's autobiography, The Story Of My Life.
- At the age of 24, Keller graduated from Radcliffe in 1902, magna cum laude and became the first deaf blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
- Helen Keller devoted her life to improve the lives of people who are blind and deaf. In 1915, she founded Helen Keller International, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent blindness.
- Made Time's 100 list of the Most Important People of the Century
- Helen Keller wrote a poem entitled A Chant of Darkness. It was originally published in Century Magazine in 1908.
