My beautiful, wonderful mom

Ranked #595 in Relationships & Family, #80,780 overall

My fabulous, wonderful, beautiful mom.

I am blessed to have an extraordinary mom, Helen Belflower Limjoco. She has been there for me through the worst and the best of times. From her I have learned that anything is possible if you just go for it. When mom sets out to do something, it gets done. No task is too daunting for my mom.

At 85 she is a breast cancer survivor in remission for 23 years, and my inspiration! She still drives around Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines, where we have all moved to. She is still so independant. For my mom, there is nothing she cannot do if she sets her mind to it. When I feel weak and insecure about doing something, I think of how my mom just jumps in feet first and gets the job done, no matter what it is.

My mom is so strong, kind, and generous to a fault. Without her unconditional love and support, I would not be the woman I am today.

Mom was raised in Oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA. During World War II she was one of the women who worked for the Douglas Aircraft Plant to rivet airplanes for the war effort. I guess this helped her to be come the handy gal she always is. She's always trying to fix things herself still.

She became one the first female entrepreneur role models for me. She had the patience to teach me how to answer phones, and at the ice plant my grandpa built in Batangas, she taught me how to count money from the sales of ice on this huge manual adding machine. My father's family were friends with Philippine presidents Laurel and Quezon, she was undaunted by her new position in life dealing with the social elite of the times.

My mom and dad celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year 2011! Congratulations mom and dad! What an accomplishment! Read the tribute to my Dad here.

Mom, I love and adore you now and forever!

Helen Limjoco in the 1950's

At my great aunt's ( Lola Amparing Arguelles de Villa) beautiful home in Malate. I remember this dress she wore, red velvet with white flowers on the bodice. I thought she looked like a Goddess that night! My mom's hair was natural blue black, and it shined like an oil spill in the sunlight, green, blue, magenta...it looked like a rainbow.

My mom would read me bedtime stories when I was a child, was always with me when I was sick, which was a lot, and encouraged my creativity.

Don't forget to take lots of photos of your mom

Yellin reveals all of the responsibilities held by women, including helping to manufacture aircraft, ships, and other munitions; and, in the process, outproducing all of America's allies and enemies, by far. Readers see war brides who worked hard to maintain the morale of their husbands while surviving long separation, fear, and shortages of virtually everything necessary to support a family.
