Where's the airport located? What currency do they have over there? What's the weather? How do you get from the airport to the city center?
If you have some time to kill, where should you eat? How many times have you decided "let's go through security first" only to find out that the best restaurants are located before the security checks? Or vice versa?

Tips For Harmonious Zen-Like Travel
It is possible
Tip #1: Stay Loyal to One Airline, join their frequent flyer program.
Tip #2: Airline Airport Clubs (i.e. Admirals Club) are worth the tax-deductible fee. The agents at these clubs reschedule delayed flights, hint about upcoming fare sales, procure distressed passenger hotel fees (or even waive the fee.) Plus there is a safe place for your stuff during long layovers and the bathrooms are so much cleaner!
Tip #3: Always ask for an upgrade at the gate (even if you are out of credits/money/ patience)~you never know if the gate employee is feeling generous. Ditto for car rentals and hotel rooms.
Tip #4: Avoid the bulkhead like the plague~~it is the day care aisle.
Tip #5: Always eat in local spots (not chains) and never question the cook! See complete explanation below.
Tip #6: Stay loyal to one hotel brand and sign up for their points program. The points build up fast!!!
Tip #7: Investigate double-dipping with points! (For instance, synchronize your car rental to also give you hotel points)
Tip #8: Join AAA. It is not just for dad's with station wagons on family vacations anymore. The hotel room discounts alone pay for the fee within one month. The road-side assistance is a life-saver!
Tip #9: Whether you are using your personal computer or a kiosk one, clean out your cookies when you leave travel websites. Travel sites use your cookie information to avoid showing you the same low price the next time you visit. Delete your cookies and they will treat you like a new customer and show you the lowest fares.
Tip #10: Use your cell phone like a PDA. Store your loyalty-program account numbers, names of helpful agents, local phone numbers for places you frequent.

Tip #5: Always eat in local spots (not chains) and never question the cook!
If you are eating a bland burrito, you're gonna make a friend.
There is a strong work ethic in Fredericksburg, Texas matched only by the strong willingness to talk and eat. A man who won't "chew the fat and sit a spell" is cause for suspicion. If you don't have time to have a cup of coffee and visit, then you're just too stinkin' busy. "Just like a Yankee," they'd say.And if you're eatin' a Bland Burrito at Binkie's, then you're gonna make a friend.
I know, I was the bland burrito eater. Harold was the one with the Cholula hot sauce and sure as fire ants crawl on ankles, he was determined to add spice to my life.

Ten Essential Travel Tips
Tip #1: Stay Loyal to One Airline: Avoid the "Other Airline"
Some destinations in the Florida Panhandle are remote. Leaving the secure confines of Platinum status, I was required to endure an "Other Airline" to travel to the remoteness. OK on the inbound, but on the outboard "Other Airline" proceeded to play flight cancel roulette. They cancelled the puddle jump flight to Dallas (where I would be reunited with Platinum) after all other direct-flight air carriers had safely escorted their flyers home.Read the Rest of this Tip at Tip 1
