Welcome to Helicopter Pilot Training - Resources to Help Get a Helicopter License
I've always been fascinated by helicopters and at the ripe old age of 40 I've decided to pursue my helicopter pilot training, with the objective of earning my private helicopter license within six months. (The link in this paragraph leads to my blog, which I encourage you to visit for more helicopter-related stuff.
I will use this lens, along with my blog and some other sites to note things that I've learned, to highlight helpful resources for other aspiring helicopter pilots, to share my experiences, and also to offer cheap advice along the way.
Taking flying lessons is serious, but in order to make the process as fun and memorable as possible, I'm looking forward to documenting the process. Soon, I'll have my private license, then who knows what I'll do next relating to aviation. Private pilot fixed-wing, possibly.
Anyway, enjoy the site and feel free to comment or get in touch with me about anything, whether related to helicopter school or not. Happy landings!!!

Why Become a Helicopter Pilot?
Considering helicopter flight training
There are literally hundreds of reasons to become a helicopter pilot, but in this entry I'm going to focus on the career possibilities that come with getting a helicopter pilot's license. As of this writing (April, 2010), unemployment is hovering around 10% and there are tens of thousands of people whose careers may really be over. After all, how many jobs have been off-shored or outsourced to lower-wage prospects? Many people are considering mid-life career changes and becoming a helicopter pilot, though not easy or cheap, is a very enticing option to consider.
Seriously, the opportunities are pretty staggering, and the pay for most helicopter-related jobs is pretty lucrative. Whether you're operating local tours or giving lessons to build time, you'll be bringing in money doing what you love, while gaining valuable experience. Once you've got a bit more hours under your belt, there are dozens of options, from flying air ambulances, to news choppers. Many logging companies have moved to utilizing helicopters for deep-woods timber extraction. Just about every metropolitan police force has a chopper (or a fleet of helicopters, depending on the city).
If you're considering exploring the possibility of a career in helicopter flying, there is a lot of information available on the web, including my helicopter flight training blog and many others, but you should also seriously consider Bruce Hogan's flight training program. You'll learn a ton about what it takes, and if you really go for it, this program has everything you'll need to pass your written test, and you can get your pilot's license in a matter of days.
Being able to fly has been a dream of mankind since the beginning of time. And today, we can make a career out of it. I'm going to learn to fly a helicopter. Join me, won't you?
