Helicopter Simulation Games

Helicopter simulation games are available in many varieties, from very simplistic to very realistic.

Free games are available online, while other fee based games, are usually downloaded. If you have a child looking for helicopter simulation you can also find free online games.

Many games have been developed for the major gaming systems. These DVD games are the most realistic and have intense, fast paced, battle scenes with amazing graphics and background music or battlefield sounds. However, I have not been able to find one dedicated entirely to helicopter flight.

Take note, if you are using a search engine to find the right game for you, many results I found were out of date.

Online Helicopter Simulation Games

Helicopter GamesMy son loves to play simulations games as well, if you have a son or daughter looking for an entertaining simulation game try: Bumper Copter 2. This game is geared towards children around 6 years of age. It's a fun game for kids, and best of all it's free.

Downloadable Simulation Games

When searching for games which are downloaded, I was able to find a good variety. Many of them were free, others ranged in price from $10 to $25 dollars. These games are not what I would recommend, however, if you are just a beginner they might offer a good fit. Just search on downloadable helicopter games.

Simulation Controls

Helicopter Flight Control

In a good simulation game, you may need to learn some basic terminology in order to maintain flight control.

First, I will start with the collective, which controls up and down movements. The stick on the left side of the pilots seat, called the collective pitch control, is operated by the pilots left hand.

Second, the cyclic which controls the left and right, forward and aft direction of the helicopter. It is also known as the "Stick". It comes out of the center of the floor of the cockpit, located between the pilots legs, and is operated by the pilots right hand.

Third, Lateral control, which is also called directional control or yaw is achieved by using pedals. The pedals are operated by the pilots feet and control the tail rotor, which is responsible for directional control at a hover, and aircraft trim in forward flight.

Used together, these 3 controls allow the pilot to maintain flight control.

Virtual Simulation Games

I use a game called Flight Pro Sim. This game is designed for the true flight enthusiast. It features environmental choices, (like: time of day and weather), airport locations around the world, and dozens of aircraft. I like it because it's the closest thing I have found to the real thing.
