Hello Kitty
The popular fictional character produced by the Japanese company Sanrio, Hello Kitty, has become the most popular of them all. Kitty is a cute, geometric, anthropomorphized white kitten, with a bow on her left ear.
Initially created by Ikuko Shimizu a Sanrio designer in 1974, Kitty left the company almost a year later. The second designer named, Setsuko Yonekubo took almost five years until the task was given to the present designer, Yuko Yamaguchi in 1980. Hello Kitty, originally appeared on small stuff like coin purses for young girls. Its name in English, Hello Kitty was given as Japanese girl toys were quite popular among the culture at that time. The name came from the book 'Through the Glass' by Lewis Carroll, where Alice has one of her cats named Kitty. Hello Kitty's fictional vocabulary consists of words of friends and family members. Hello Kitty holds the position of U.S. children's ambassador for UNICEF since 1983. Hello Kitty came on her own when celebrities like Mariah Carey adopted her as fashion statement in the 1990's. She has been adorned in jewelry and worn by many celebrities such as, Cameron Diaz, Ricky Martin, Heidi Klum, Steven Tyler, Mandy Mooore, Carmen Electra, Raven-Symone and Paris and Nicky Hilton. Singer Lisa Loeb has admitted on being a crazy fan of Hello Kitty, and has also dedicated an album in homage to Hello Kitty, named Hello Lisa.
