Help a Child
"Won't you consider giving two gifts in one when you send candles to your loved ones this season?"
Out of the almost 130 lenses I have made here on Squidoo, there are a handful that have truly touched my heart. This is one of them.
My name is Cathy Flock (Squidoo name Chloe Cavanaugh), an Independent Demonstrator for Gold Canyon Candles since last October, 2008.
After a convention last night in Harvard Illinois, I knew I had to bring awareness to the most important aspect of Gold Canyon Candles. The Prayer Child Foundation.
God has blessed my business, now it is with great pleasure, that I share this opportunity with you. Would you like to help a child in need?
100% of the profits from the sale of these candles go toward the Prayer Child Foundation.
Do I make a profit? Yes! Read my story to find out what I will do with it!

Amelia Lohse
Dixon, IL.
Recently, three year old Amelia Lohse was diagnosed with a condition that requires her to undergo brain decompression surgery, in December.I made a request to the Prayer Child Foundation, and this is what they sent me, to give to her, and her family.
When they came into Bergner's to pick up the check. I not only had the pleasure of meeting this little doll, I did a mini make-over. Since I work in the Estee Lauder Department, I thought I would treat her to our famous "2 minute Signature Services!" She knew exactly what she wanted, pink lips, and pink sparkles. Such a charming little girl, sweet as could be. Yet, it was all I could do to hold back the tears. Her Mother, was so touched by the generosity of the Prayer Child Foundation, she broke down.
We all hugged each other, and I told Amelia, I would see her again, many thanks were exchanged, and Amelia blew me a kiss. I must say, this will be the make-over I will remember for the rest of my life.

I am extremely proud to be a part of this amazing organization. And now, I hope you will join the cause as well. This foundation helps seriously ill children, and their families right here in the United States!
One candle does make a difference!
Prayer Child Foundation
Karen Waisath

Founded in 2000 by Karen and Curt Waisath, the Prayer Child Foundation is a 501(c)(3) that seeks to make a difference in the lives of children with physical and emotional challenges by providing financial support, opportunity for involvement to help others and a hope for a positive future.
The Prayer Child Foundation is managed by an all-volunteer staff, directed by Karen Waisath, President of the Foundation.
The Prayer Child Foundation seeks to minimize overhead costs by requesting donations in time and materials for the development of its collateral and fundraising programs. The all-volunteer staff keeps costs low, to ensure the proceeds go to the foundation.

Gold Canyon Candles
Curt and Karen Waisath

How it Started
Gold Canyon Candle Co. Lighting Up Hearts and Homes
When Curt and Karen Waisath's second child arrived home, they took a big leap. The family's sole wage earner, Curt, walked into his employer, Henry & Horne, to announce the arrival of his son and gave his two-week notice.
That was in June 1997, two or three years after the couple had begun intensive research and development to create a new type of candle.
"I don't know what we were thinking," Curt Waisath says with a laugh today. "We knew we had a great product and together we were committed. We were willing to take the risk and to start over if necessary."
In the beginning, Gold Canyon Candle Co. was a thriving business, employing more than 275 people in its peak season. The first candle was sold on Oct. 1, 1997, and the first employee hired on Nov. 1, 1997.
Waisath says he always wanted to own a business. His wife, Karen, comes from a family of entrepreneurs. They had been looking for the right opportunities for while. The candle idea came about because Karen bought candles that smelled good in the store only to disappoint her when she lit them at home. The two created a candle product that delights the nose both at the store and in the home.
"We've never tried anything as hard as this. It's a mindset, a leap of faith and quitting my job prior to having a product made us do it," Waisath says. "There's the entrepreneurial moment when you say, 'Yes, we can.' The rest was pure staying alive."

Gold Canyon Candles Review Juliette Samuel BellaOnline's Fragrance Editor
Gold Canyon Candles has been in business since 1997. Co-founder Karen Waisath made candles in her home and happened upon the candle recipe that started it all. Together, Curt and Karen Waisath have made it possible for these wonderful smelling candles to make their way into the homes of many people.
Gold Canyon wicks are lead-free and candles that are 8oz or more have double wicks. This helps the candle burn more evenly, so there is not a buildup of wax in the container. One remarkable note about Gold Canyon candles that after you extinguish them, you can put your finger in the liquid wax and it doesn't burn. According to a representative at Gold Canyon, they call this "cool wax". I have personally done that. The experience did not hurt my finger at all, and I am not tolerant of pain.
The products are sold exclusively through home demonstrators or their websites. The candles vary in size, shape, and price. There are some fragrances that are seasonal. Gold Canyon also has many more scents than I will try to describe here. To find the most current scents and prices, along with their other products, contact a local demonstrator, or go to their website.
The following reviews are based on products that I have personally tested. I have tested many of these fragrances in each line, and these are a few of my favorites in each category. As I am fully aware, tastes differ between people. Therefore, I do not presume myself to be a fragrance critic, but a fragrance reviewer.
BABY POWDER - In the CANDLES FOR KIDS line, this is my favorite. It smells like baby powder and makes a wonderful fragrance for a bathroom, or a gift for a new mom. All the candles are white in this line; only their scents distinguish them. The proceeds for this line go to help many charities for children.

Doing My Part
A Challenge

Gold Canyon Demonstrators, we need your help! President & CEO Curt Waisath has issued a challenge to all Demonstrators to work together to reach the goal of 50,000 Parties during the 4th quarter of 2009. When we reach this goal, Curt will personally donate $50,000 to children in communities all across North America. All you have to do is have Parties!
Having Parties is something you're already doing, but if Demonstrators hold 50,000 Parties during 4th quarter, Curt will donate $50,000 to help the Prayer Child Foundation. It's that simple!
We are counting on the strength and unity of Gold Canyon Demonstrators and your passion for the Prayer Child Foundation. We recognize that you have already helped the PCF donate $1.8 million direct to children in need, so we know you can do it. Just imagine what $50,000 can do and how many children it can help!
We are 27,000 Demonstrators strong and we only need to do 50,000 Parties-this is a goal we can reach together! With everyone's help, we can reach our goal in three months (October, November and December), but it's important you do your part-together, we can make a difference.
Bring your teams together and let's join together to make a difference in childrens lives!
