Are We Thankful That We Were Born With Healthy Hearts?

Congenital heart defects are birth defects related to the heart.  They are also one of the leading cause of birth defect related deaths.  I'm going to take this lens from a different angle.  When we think about congenital heart defects, is it just a medical diagnosis to us? Can you feel the pain of the parent whose child is born with one? Congenital heart defects can happen for a variety of reasons, some of which can be prevented.  The more aware we are the more we can do to prevent those that are preventable, and help those children whose defects are recognized early enough to save their lives.

Why Did I Get Involved in This CHD Awareness Day Event On Squidoo?

I found out about it from an email from Dr. Mani. I was very close to overlooking it and I paused and thought about just 3 years or 1 year ago when I was pregnant with my daugthers. I have an autoimmune marker (SSA+) that could possibly cause heart defects in my kids. I remembered that feeling that I had when I was pregnant and going to for the fetal echocardiograms and just worried sick about the health of my future babies. And then I was thankful to God for having healthy kids with healthy hearts and I thought hey, its just going to take 15 minutes. Its the least I can do to spread the word, if only in thanks for the blessings that I have.
