Help for Panic Attacks (What Worked For Me)

1. Meditation

This made the largest difference for me. I committed myself to meditating for 20 minutes each day. After about a week I noticed that my "mind noise" was considerably lower and I could easily choose the thoughts I wanted to focus on.

I actually continue to meditate every day although I have not had a panic attack in 8 months. I just don't want to break a good habit :-)

2. Cut the Stress

You see this a lot. Everywhere you will find people telling you that you need to reduce the amount of stress you put yourself under. But it seems like no one follows that advice (I know I didn't at first).

In fact, I see a lot of people actually increasing their workload because they are trying to get more work done faster.

Do your best to cut your stress down. Stress is very harmful to your body. Remember that without your health, you will not be able to work anyways. And we all know how much stress contributes to panic attacks.

3. Challenge Negative Thoughts

Whenever a negative thought comes up, you should do your best to challenge it. See if there is REAL evidence in your life to back that thought up. You see, most of our negative thoughts come from stories we make up in our minds. Once you see that it has no validity, you will be able to discard it. This is a huge help for panic attacks.
